Alteza all pass delays help

Trying to understand the APF/stage section of Alteza reverb. Read the manual. Got a small handle on it- setting APF to all 1’s and hearing size knob determine delay length.
However when adjusting the stages to various amounts I get lost. Any insight?

    Speaking about allpass filters in general and not so much from specific knowledge about Alteza:

    As you add more allpass filters the early reflections should get denser, meaning that you hear a smooth wash of sound rather than individual discrete echoes. More allpass filters also means the onset of reverb happens more slowly; it fades in rather than coming on all at once.
