  • 'Lean on me',was the first song my son ever sang.

    RIP

  • A great singer and the reason for one of my favourite Dad jokes.

I know it. (I know it, I know it, I know it, I know it....) I was waiting until later in the thread for it, but you do the honors. Meant in the spirit of tribute, it’s only right!

Yes, this is a good one. Look how light the drummer plays (and grooves!). And how simply everything is miked up, resulting a great sound.

No, you are right @mrufino1. It is too soon to ask why a duck in a microwave is like an old soul singer?

    Oops..

  • Big Fan. RIP

Uh oh, then not that one I know!

I called Bill Withers to tell him that Ain’t know sunshine is gramatically incorrect. He said I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know...

But I now I also know that the bill withers.

Meant with the great respect, because he was awesome. I’m rewatching the bbc session that @richardyot posted, so good.

His live at Carnegie hall album is amazing.

    Top stuff @mrufino1

Yeah it's a fantastic bit of music for this Friday afternoon.

They would autotune all the life out of his voice nowadays but it sounds great as is.

  • Dang, that stinks. Huge talent that will be missed. The recordings are great though. Timeless!

  • Nooooo, say it ain’t so. Bill and Otis Redding are 2 of my all time favorite Soul/R&B singers. Otis has been gone awhile but now Bill too.

  • My fav bill withers song, so beautiful and sad.

  • Hope she’ll be happier by bill withers

  • He didn’t write many bad ones. All so simple, right from his heart to ours.

And not to sound like a broken record, but the drummer in that video (not James Gadson, he must not have made the trip, I swore that was him!), wow.

Dead snare with the wallet- very dead snare, fat wallet, you know he had a very good week.

But man, everything about Bill Withers exuded groove, and then like minded people playing with him. So good.

  • RIP and thank you for the music.

    R.I.P.

We played his songs a lot in our club back in the days. Very unique artist. He will be missed.

  • He was the best of the best. May he Rest In Peace. Lean on me is one of my favorite song of all time.

  • Another great artist is gone. Fortunately I suck.

  • I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, right?

You left us a lotta sunshine. RIP

  • This one hit in the face.

  • This breaks my fucking heart. Bill was an enormous hero of mine.

    Here's one for Bill.
