Any specific SSD for ipad?
iPad pro. I know that they are lots of them but iPad is a mobile device so it should be small and well connected.
Any recommendations?

I'm using the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB. It is USB-C out, so it's perfect with the newer iPad Pros.

I’m a little confused about the whole external HD thing. Can I use a regular hard drive to store the bulk of my samples and then move to audioshare as needed?
I know you need SSD to store large parts of the Gospel Musicians Apps, But what can I do with a new regular 2tb HD? In terms of iOS music production?
@Poppadocrock you can use a regular external HD as long as you have either a powered hub to plug it into or it has it’s own power supply. It is basically a good place to store and backup all of your recordings, samples etc which then can also be shared with a computer if you desire.
Samsung T5 here for daily stuff and a couple of WD externals connected at times via my Audiofuse (inbuilt 3 port USB hub) for older things.

Oh, ok, so I can use it for storing and then sharing Samples, loops, one shots, etc... to my iPad since I do everything on my iPad. I want to make space, Audioshare is packed but I want the audio files handy while I’m jamming.
I thought I knew, but what are advantages of SSD? I know they are a good 50% higher in price. The apps that do allow you to store additional content on something external specifically say you can only use SSD’s, so I wasn’t sure what my limits would be with a regular external Hard Drive.
@Poppadocrock The SSDs are a little faster, should be more dependable and drop safe and, importantly, are a lower power device. Which means you can plug them directly into the CCK with the iPad powered up. If you have an iPad Pro 2018/20 then I believe the drive will power directly off the USB C port. I have an iPad Pro 9.7 with a lightning interface so I use a CCK3 adapter and have the iPad plugged into power to use the SSD. If I want to use an older type of external drive I need to use a powered hub to interface as it draws too much power for the lightning interface to operate. I haven't tried to operate something like Soul Keys streaming off the disk with a traditional drive setup so I don't know if that would work. I have only tried it with the SSD.
Gotcha Thanks so much for the info. I don’t mind using a powered hub, and I just ordered a new camera connector kit with 2nd port for charging. I have two external HD a 1tb that’s fairly older and a brand new seagate 2tb, but no SSD, and no Plans of getting one in near future. I guess I’ll plug the HD in and get my trial and error on. Thanks again...
I have an iPad 6 by the way, 128gb.
Sandisk extreme 500 Gb here. So good. Works like a charm.
I use a 500gb Samsung T5 SSD and a 5TB WD easystore (non-ssd) drive with my 2018 (usb-c) iPad Pro. The iPad can power both of them directly with no external power supply required. The SSD is obviously faster and boots quickly whereas the WD can lag a little bit but can store way more.

These ext drives show up in the Files app...do they show up anywhere else ? Would be nice to see in AudioShare.
Or, for example, are there any DAWS that will read a session or store/read samples from an ext drive?
from what I know these external drives only appear in the Files app, but not in apps. There is no direct read/write for video or music apps.
Neo Soul Keys and Pure Synth can store their sound files on an SSD and then stream from there, but it’s not a wide spread thing and there is currently no recording direct to external drive implemented by any DAW in iOS.
Audioshare just updated to have external usb drive support but Im not exactly sure what that entails

Just checked out AudioShare after the update, if you go to the yellow 'Import From' button on the bottom and select > Pick Folder the USB Drive will show up, if you hit >Done it'll copy the whole drive over and show up as a folder in AudioShare. pretty cool. I wasn't able to get it to show specific files though.
For that you can again go to the 'Import From' button and choose Pick File(s) and it takes you to the Files app where the USB Drive shows up and you can select individual files.
@BitterGums that’s cool. Makes importing and exporting of multiple files way easier.
import and export is possible in many, if not most cases. But direct read/write access as you can do with any laptop or Windows tablet is still a thing of the future for iOS devices.
