New iPhone SE

edited April 2020 in Other

Yay! Great specs, good price. 256Gb model available!
Not as small as the previous model though

PS. As expected, no headphone jack

  • Great, glad they kept home button and touch id...I prefer this to Face id.

  • Wonder how aggressive is CPU throttling gonna be, looks like the XR suffers from that when on paper it should be pretty powerful

  • 3D Touch is gone, replaced with the haptic touch thing...
GarageBand will suffer (it's actually very usable in that app).

  • Looks like my 6s but without 3D Touch and headphone jack. Hard sell.

  • Wish it was squared off. Not a fan of the rounded edges

  • That looks perfect to me. I prefer the form factor of my old iPhone 7 to my 11.

Although the extra girth of the 11 helps with the battery life. Battery life of the 7 was crap.

Anyway. This looks like the perfect iPhone for a lot of people. My wife’s old SE is starting to play up. This’ll be perfect for her.

Id happily go back to Touch ID but the ultra wide lens is not something I’d give up now.

  • I guess the headphone jack is never coming back. Going to change the battery in my 6s today, that will be its 3rd battery. I’m going to keep it running until it won’t. I use my headphone jack every day.

I just keep this thing in that funny small jeans pocket all the time, it's so useful if you have a no-headphone-jack iPhone. The reason it looks manky is because it's been through the wash a few times, it still works perfectly though!

I own an iPhone 8+ and will not buy the new SE.

    It's small.
    It has no 3D touch.
    No zoom lens.
And, I'm still very happy with my current device.

Probably will get the next flagship model, though.

3D Touch is history. No new iphones are likely to have it.

I have one of those and the one that lets you charge because I do live sound and there are many times people want to plug their phone in to play a song or pre show music, etc. of course, they never have an adapter with them, so I have to carry them...I know that it’s good for waterproofing and I’ll have to adapt eventually, but I still think it was dumb.

The one upside is it lets you use devices like those little microphones that were meant to plug into the headphone jack and they actually get good quality. I never tried it with an irig but I wonder if it would work.

Actually, when I have to finally get a phone with no headphone jack, it means my focusrite pocket won’t work anymore for learning tunes at sound check, etc. I’ll have to get an irig hd2 or the like. Hopefully a few years down the road.

I'd got a previously owned iPhone 7 Plus 128GB as a gift... then I won an iPhone 11 Pro 256GB. I was going to sell the iPhone 7 Plus, but actually decided I liked the size of the 7 Plus for couch browsing. Lighter than the iPad but nice size for casual browsing. I also like the extra camera...

Having used the iPhone 11 Pro face recognition alongside the iPhone 7 Plus for a couple months now... I have to admit... I kinda prefer the home button too.

And, now that I'm wearing a mask going to the store and such, it's a pain because it does't recognize your face with a medical mask on. ;)

I forgot that I still have 3D touch.

What are the best uses of 3D touch?

I fixed my headphone adaptor to the lead of my headphones with a small hair tie thing I stole from my daughter. I’d have lost it years ago if I hadn’t have done that :-)

    Velocity sensitive keyboards.

I just wish they put the lightning port where the headphone jack used to be.

  • edited April 2020

Presumably it's usb-c which is much faster than lightning, no still lightning I think...that's a shame
guess I can still use my chargers etc, but usb-c is much better

That is genius - thanks for pushing me over the upgrade edge :)

it's lightning. no headphone jack, but comes with ear pods with lightning connector. so sadly, the handy clagnut that @richardyot posted is not included.

  • Funny, in terms of connection ports and expressivity (3D touch) the iPhone 6S is the last best phone. Mine is almost broken (the display is broken). Once it is totally broken i might just buy the same model again.
Drambo runs fine on my 6S plus, so all is good for now :)
Apple is good sadly as making steps back with their "all new" devices.

My SE is showing it’s age a bit now. Never been happy with the photo quality compared to my previous 5, but the price was good, and it’s about 4 years old now so will probably upgrade to one of these.

Will wait until the next Black Friday (if we still have such a thing), as I usually get a good deal from Argos (unless they go bust). I think they knocked £100 off last time.

That’s pretty easy to fix yourself or have someone do it- my friend took his to a local place and they charged him $60, and I changed the glass on my wife’s 8 plus myself. It wasn’t as easy as changing a battery, but it did work in the end.

  • Knowing Apple I bet iOS 14 won't support the old SE, forcing people to upgrade to a newer model :)
    I hope I'm wrong

  • Definitely upgrading to this one..it's the only iPhone I can justify the cost of. I wonder if it will be as durable as the V1 SE... mine's 4 years old but still in mint condition.

Maybe the best way. Its even missing some parts of the screen at one border now, but it is also a bit bend and a lot scratches. I take it to work and everywhere there it had to go trough hell.
But the worst thing is that it was broken when i gone to the toilet and it falls down to the tiles when i had to hurry.
    A classic one, lol :D
