Impulse response IR loader as an effect??

Hello,

Is the an app or an effect besides doing this in Auria.... That you can load up IR's in? For I do love Bias but I also love some of the IRs that I have. I don't want to do this in Auria as well... Don't like it much. Would be great if there was an app that I could load in the effects slot of AB and drop my impulse's into.

Thanks.

  • Rooms! does this (the exclamation point is part of the name)

  • Cool. I will give that a go. Thanks!

  • Fiddlicator is also a fine app for IR with custom import. Check youtube for demo.

Now, who's got links (or Dropbox) to GOOD IR's. Come on guys, throw a dog a bone.

  • Bump from a lazy guy who wants links to guitar and bass cab models without bucking up to Auria

@WMWM Holy cow.. What's that Fiddlicator sweet looking app.. And how is it that i've just known about it after deciding to go ahead and check (copy/pasting) the funny name - that kept me a few puzzled minutes wondering if it was some kind of joke or who the hell knows what..! - so casually mentionned in your post? It seems awsome.. Can't wait to get home and load some of my favorite IR's into it to try it out. It ain't on the bus though; anyone knows the dev or has tried to contact him suggesting he add AB in future update?

As for IR files, if you guys are after good guitar cabs ones i think I can help - i have a large collection of Redwire Modern Classics, Vintage Classics, and Bass Cabinets i can create a dedicated dropbox account (as mine is almost full) and link to them.. And if other people have IR's they'd be ready to share we can make it a shared account so anyone who wants to can add to the collection.. I'll post what i have soon - hopefully by tonight, although you'll have to excuse me if it takes me a little more time for i'm currently in the midst of porting my life from one country to another (and stuffing everything in carton boxes is one surreal, maddening, and exhausting activity, to my taste.. I keep on missing a given item, and being a person who's normative living state/space ranges from improbable mess to deliciously chaotic [i function better that way.. Especially for writing purposes; It helps/excites my spatial sens and narrative memory - forcing me to rely upon them exclusively to locate things dispersed all over the place..!] end up going nuts wondering wether i put it in a box already or have lost it/forgotten it somewhere i've recently been at (also something i tend to do fairly often...), which ultimately drives me to go through the boxes reopenning / taking them apart one at a time till i find or give up on the missing thing that started it.. But i've come up with a system (after going through the latter ordeal more times than i'm proud to disclose..) of stapling, on the side of every box, a piece of paper holding a growing list upon which i keep track of everything that goes in - or out - any of them boxes.. I'd've been done a week ago at least had i thought of that from the start..)

  • Thanks for the heads up re Fiddlicator @WMWM. I only gave this the briefest of glances when I saw the release. The name put me off, but good find indeed and it's free. Here's the link if anyone else is interested

"Improbable mess to deliciously chaotic", yeah @MPC I am the same, it's the contrasts that make life beautiful. Those impulses sound useful to me, I look forward to the link, Merci!

"or has tried to contact him suggesting he add AB in future update?" Good question.
@thinds can you see a way to contact the dev, Martin Varga?

  • @WMWM

From the app support link in iTunes [email protected]

  • Let's get that Fiddlicator on the bus! I would pony up some cash for a good looking, high quality Acoustic Simulator that uses standard IR Wavs, doesn't kill my device, and is AB/IAA compatible!

Fiddlicator does look amazing. How do you get IRs into it? iTunes transfer only? If this works stable with guitar cab IRs and audiobus support was added (input and effect) this could be a jackpot. Nice find!

  • Rooms will do that already.

  • edited March 2014

Already have rooms but in lowest latency mode I still get occasional pops and clicks (and the new yellow warning sign) even with iPad Air and rooms as the only app running. That doesn't seem right because cab IRs are so short in length so I'm still on the lookout for a replacement. Not to mention the EQ section in Fiddlicator looks amazing for tweaking the cab IR!

Already have rooms but in lowest latency mode I still get occasional pops and clicks...

I am sorry to hear this. Let me ask a few questions, which might help me investigating the problem:

    • How often do the clicks occur?
    • What is the duration of the IR?
    • Do you use mono or stereo mode?
    • With Audiobus, or standalone use?
    • By "lowest latency mode" you mean 2.9 ms / 128 frames? This is in fact extremely demanding, even for iPad Air. I implemented this option mainly to be prepared for future devices.
    • Are there really no other apps in the background? There are apps, like the App Store app, which create spikes of load at certain times (e.g. when checking for updates). These tasks ought to be processed with lower priority, but obviously they aren't.

Fiddlicator uses up to 16384 taps. This is fine for IRs up to 16384 / 44100 Hz = 0.37 seconds, but for longer IRs it gives only an approximation. Rooms! does a real convolution of the complete IR, which needs signficantly more calculations and can be done only by the FFT way. FFT is more efficient with large buffers. That is why the low latency mode is hard to do. For version 3.4 I will try to improve this by coalescing buffers.

Fiddlicator's GUI is beautiful. I can certainly learn something here.

  • And of course another question: iOS 7.0 or 7.1?

  • Hello everyone, @WMWM told me there is a Fiddlicator related discussion on this forum. I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed my app and I would like to answer your questions.
About AB/IAA support: I will release a new version (0.8.2) which supports the Inter-app-audio. I think this release will be available on the App Store in about a week. I also started some investigation how to implement the AB support to the Fiddlicator, so I plan to support it as well, but I am not sure when it will be ready, because I would like to implement user presets and MIDI support first.

@Ringleader - yes, current version supports IR file sharing just via iTunes, but the version will 0.8.2 allow you to import the IR audio file from any application via "Open in..." Currently I support IR stored only in a standard audio files (wav, aiff...)

@polaron_de - I really like your great applications, the Organ applications are really amazing and I am fascinated by your convolution reverb (I thought you used the FFT convolution:). You are right the Fiddlicator is not useful to much for room reverberation, I developed it mainly for simulating of a instrument body resonance (for my electric violin - so I called it Fiddlicator :) and for this purpose is 16k IR enough.

  • Hi @interkalator, look forward to the updates. Nice app.

  • edited March 2014

@interkalator Great app. I figured the short tail was due to the body resonance requirement not needing a longer one. Will you be adding other instrument IRs, such as oud, mandolin, banjo, etc?

  • edited March 2014

@polaron_de - I will send you the info you requested in an email. Thanks for looking into this.

@interkalator - MIDI selectable presets would be amazing! I haven't loaded a cab IR into your app yet but will soon. Excited to try it since the cab IRs I have are typically only .1 second so they should be full quality. And if you do add AB support, please consider adding both Input and Effect slot capability. Input slot would provide less latency when using external pedals/amp simulator (at least this is the case with Audiobus 1).

Also for anyone interested in convolution reverb/cab IRs outside of the iPad, check out Logidy's new EPSi pedal. It has an incredibly low 1ms latency from input to output with the new cab firmware that supports stereo IRs up to 1.5 seconds! And I'm sure all of you know that I am a stickler for low latency by now. IMHO, latency is the only thing preventing iOS from taking over the audio world. http://www.logidy.com/?pid=1

  • Glad to see you made it @interkalator. Also, Glad to hear about the development plans as well.

@ringleader thanks for the link to logidy. That looks useful.

I am glad to tell you the new Fiddlicator version (0.8.2) with Inter-App Audio support is released. I created a short video to demonstrate this feature:

@PaulB - unfortunately I cannot record these IRs yet, maybe in the future. I am now focused to the app development. It shouldn't be a problem to upload it in the Fiddlicator if you find some.

@Ringleader - Thank you for your recommendation regarding AB - I will take a look at that. Please, did you have a chance to try the cab IRs with Fiddlicator?
The EPSi pedal looks really nice, just some midi/control missing. I'm tempted to order one to see how it works.

  • Hi mates, i'm new to the forum... i red a lot of usefull info here but I still your help, i hoe someone can assist me.

I'm using Bias Fx for my live gigs with a macbook pro but i'm trying to put it in my ipad air as well as it might be easier for live gigs. I'm wondering: how can i load my Impulse responses into the Ipad? i downloaded Fiddlicator but i don't know how to have the IRs loaded into the ipad and then in Fiddlicator. Of couse Audiobus is app that i use to put together Bias Fx and Fiddlicator. I use a Scarlett solo interface + Bias Fx + (i wish) Fiddlicator.

Can you please help? Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Thank you all in advance!

First of all, you can load fiddlicator to fx chain of bias fx. No need to use audiobus for that. Just select the iaa thing on bias and select fiddlicator there.

You can load impulses to fiddlicator by having the impulse somewhere on the ipad(i use documents 5 as a file manager https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/documents-5-file-manager-pdf/id364901807?mt=8 , i highly recommend it. At least a while back it was easily the best one). Then just select the impulse on the file manager and select "open in" and select fiddlicator there. Its then added to the list of impulses on fiddlicator.

  • Hi ToMess, that was very helpful! thank you su much!
