LayR is an absolute juggernaut / change my mind

Just scratching the surface here. Thanks to SoundForMore for the tutorials! Will continue to dig into this synth. Thanks @LivingMemorySoftware & @brice for the inspiration.

    Change your mind? OK.

An alien intelligence has landed on earth near Wuhan China and is spreading globally using RNA replication. 90% of world governments have been infected and are working to have us all go home and watch streaming entertainment.

    You asked.

LayR is just another streaming media object designed to keep you distracted for hours on end while the resources of the planet are prepared to be loaded onto inter-planetary cargo vessels. They seem to want all our Doritos and Lite Beer. They also co-opted the Football Draft to get the better players into the right organizations for assimilation and a Fantasy Football league that allows off-planet betting.

Keep LayR'ing. Nothing to see here.

We are soylent green. And morbidly obese. Probably why this planet was chosen... juicy livestock.

Think I might buy layR ( but when its on a deal ) For when the Behringer controller arrives. I could just use an ec4. Controller greed.

Why is layR different then mixing patches of various synths. I think with the behringer. Just on one scene. You could make a 4 part synth. Maybe even more via layR instruments that contribute a part/voice. Hopefully the instruments themleves could be mapped to a nanokontrol volumes. Then the knob mappings of voice could maybe be an lfo for the multiple instruments ( cross mapped ) if layR can be dulpicate cc. With volume control. Volumes seem a good way to make tracks even when synth tweaking obviously. Then there the sequencer in layR. External midi effects would have been good for each sequence ( if it cant per sequence ) Then you have mapping zones. I got a microkey 61. Maybe Id use Drambo to send midi from keyboard to switch tracks or there be a function ( maybe midi mappable ) to switch control of input from the microkey. Then tweak behringer knobs.

Trying to build a vermona style. I know you dont really need another synth for this or if its not really a function but the expert synth tweaker making any synth sound good ( whatever the function ) but layR I think might be the synth that can be closet because of layer functions. That with midi control. Without midi I wouldnt bother.

  • Oh Yes, LayR is 👌🏻

  • I’ve been waiting for a sale on this one a long time, but now I plan on getting the newest Synthmaster instead when it comes out. It looks like it’ll hit all the critical issues and with its brand new UI, it’s a real competition killer.

This synth is amazing. I’m upset at everyone on this forum for letting me miss out on this so long. T’hell wit the lot of ya’s!! 😡

@LivingMemorySoftware where are you you genius!!! I’m off to see if there’s anything else you’ve made that I’ve disrespected myself by missing out on.lol. This thing makes my iPad Pro sound bigger and badder than anything else by a long shot!

LayR is what caused me to buy an iPad. I was still involved in desktop music app development and a colleague told me to get an iPad so I could explore LayR…and promised to buy the iPad from me if I wasn’t blown away. Needless to say, he didn’t have to purchase the iPad from me.

  • Yep! LAYR is thicc!

LayR is just so rich and full! I'd surely love finally get Brice Beasley's additional presets that were talked about, but never appeared.

    You sure they never appeared?

Brice teased a new set of presets in the past year. But the update that was to include them hasn’t materialized.

Those cinematic presets are off the charts good imo.

I spent a few hours with Layr today, it had been a long time since I’d opened it and thought I’d get reacquainted. What a synth! Just the engine alone, without the insane layering/multitimbral options, is a work of beauty...the FM and AM elements, as well as the wave folding on filter 2, can really take a simple oscillator into some wild new territory.

And I’d forgotten how good the arp/sequencer is, still need some more time with it to fully grasp it, but the arp presets really showcase its capabilities.

Only thing I found myself wanting is a delay and reverb per part, rather than as master fx

  • @drewinnit : for reverb per channel load it in a host like AUM as a multi-out instrument. You can then add effects per channel in the host. When LayR was written, there may not have been many iPads fast enough to handle multiple reverb instances.

  • It would be so awesome if you could randomize the layers. That would change everything for me, without that I have no use for it.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • @espiegel123 thanks, yeah I know I could use the multi outs but have been using it as a multitimbral sound module (Sending program changes to change performances). Still may use the multi outs with this technique, but would love the ability to save a verb/delay with each part. Just a very minor complaint about an otherwise stellar synth :)
