I’ve been interested in this app for quite a while now. Does anyone here own it? It hasn’t been updated in two years and relies on iTunes. Does it bring anything to the table that isn’t covered by, say, the apesoft apps?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I will post in this thread from now on, because the thread we have been using the last few days is actually for Cs grain, apologies for that. Any Qs, ask me, I’ve been playing with this a lot the last few days.
On my ipad Air 2 I can use it in Aum to process audio but none of the import options work. On my ipad pro 2018 I can't load it in Aum but I can import files with audiocopy. Both ipads running latest ios.
How weird, I can do both of those on my iPad Pad 2018. For loading in AUM, the following usually works. Open Cs spectral stand-alone. Open in AUM. Usually doesn’t open. Press reload. No success, Swipe Cs grains stand-alone to kill app. Reopen stand-alone, press reload again in AUM. If I try variations on this a few times with no joy, I just use audiobus 3 to do it.
@Gavinski @hacked_to_pieces are either of you able to run csSpectral with just the internal speakers? I really don’t understand how it’s changed, but without an external DAC csS will not effect the sound in any way for me.
Yes I haven't been using an audio interface recently, no problem at all. @tehskwrl
It’s too bad. Judging from the YouTube videos the developers put a lot of work into the app and it sounds really intriguing. However, I don’t think a premium-level priced app should need to be macgyverd to work, if it works at all.
It shouldn't, u r right, but it's good enough that I am willing to put up with it until something that does the same or better comes along
This is how it functions in AUM on my iPad air 2 running iPad OS 13.4.1. On the Air 2 running in AUM its best for just processing loops since your CPU is going to be hit HARD. You can process a few light synth but must will send the CPU over 100. Since I can't import files thru the standalone on 13 on my Air 2, using AUM is the only way to get audio in. On the iPad pro I can import files into the standalone using AudioCopy. Running in AUM on the Pro is trickier than the Air 2 which is fairly easy and works every time. Haven't tried it in any other host other than AUM. @tehskwrl it works without a DAC on both my Air and Pro.
So if I were a potential buyer I'd proceed with caution .
😬 Rarely, if ever, have I seen users of an app describe it thusly: „it’s awesome. Don’t buy it“.
Just to clarify me if I understood correctly.
If I have an IPad Pro 2020 with the 48000Hz locker sample rates it could work without glitches and even without using external audio cars to change the sample rate?
Never used audiocopy. It will work like a sort of audio share? Is it correct.
Thx and sorry for some noob question😂😂
@Charlesalbert I don't have a iPad Pro 2020 but on my 2019 ipad pro it opens in Standalone I have not be able to open it in AUM, others have said they have been able to. In the video above I'm using it on an ipad Air 2 which is the hardware it was designed to run on. I bought the app 8 years ago it was great then but apps don't last forever. Look at ApeMatrix and their other apps for similar results and more stable environment.
I think if you really want to try it, just get it. If you do decide you want to return it, I doubt you will have any problem getting a refund. I know none of us like to do that, but it may be the only way you will know if the app will work for you or not, and you are doing it in good faith.
Thank you very much👌
@Charlesalbert I'm currently uploading to YouTube a little 20 minute tutorial on Cs spectral live mode I did just now. That might help you decide whether to buy or not. Its very slow to upload though, so I may end up having to wait til tmrw my time to post.
Thank You. So kind❤️
@Gavinski I pushed the button.
On my iPad Pro 2020 everything is working good using it as IAA audio effect in AUM.
The only problem is due to sample rate conversion, so to use this effect without crackling I have to use an external audio card that fix the audio rate at 44100Hz. Except this CSSPECTRAL is really an astonishing app.
We should write the dev to port this magic to the Auv3 world!!!
That's great! Pity about needing the interface, is there really no way around that? Wow...
I have asked about Auv3 support already, it was on Facebook. Messages haven't even been seen. It's basically abandonware I guess, though at least it is still on the app store. Still, I absolutely love it, a unique tool indeed.
@Gavinski @Charlesalbert
You don't necessarily need audio interface... a headset (headphone with mic) will do... once plugged in you can select 44.1kHz
Thanks. Just tried with apple USB C to jack adapter and it is all working correctly.
No audio import but only “LIVE INPUT” mode. It
Did you try audio import with audio paste or audio copy? There are definitely ways to import audio. I have done that very little so far, forget how to describe exactly but will tell u later after I've checked.
Can anyone remind me what name this app goes under in AUM? CS brings up nothing for me, Spectral neither. But I can find their other Grain app. Pretty sure I remember that the spectral one had some weird name in aum. Have trawled through my aum iaa list but didn't see it
Cs spectral? I’d be very surprised if it still works. It didn’t work perfectly back in the day and it even seemed like abandonware back then. It would be cool to have a phase vocoder but promising as it were, this wasn’t it. Too late to get a refund I guess? I used to be deep into csound back in the days
Checking out some old threads, I see that this used to appear when you searched ‘filter’ in AUM, but now, not. This despite the fact I still have the IAA on my device and it still loads standalone. Quite a mystery!
I always wanted this one, but the price and bug reports put me off - I reckon there are better apps for doing this sort of thing now anyway.
Pretty sure I remember it still does a couple of things that other apps don't. I wouldn't recommend buying it but I would like to use it since I have it, and am super puzzled as to why I can't find it in aum
unfortunately - there is no other app that does what this does (a wide set of spectral processing) on iOS...
problem is, it was buggy from start and is unusable now and it wasnt cheap.
me hopes that it will be fixed/updated someday because its very good!
But can u find it in AUM?
Give up on the idea it will be fixed / maintained brother, looks highly unlikely. They don't even respond to messages, seems the outfit is totally dead.
Gavinski:
nope
I cant see it in AUM
but I would be equally happy if it would works ok as standalone
( it has an internal sample player ... )
but it doesnt ...:)
