Sunrizer on sale US$3 today only (March 14)

In answer to the question, "Should I get it?" the answer is "Yes, even if you have every other synth for the iOS platform." It sounds expensive AND the interface fits on one page.

  • About Sunrizer, does BPM sync to external MIDI source?

  • and what does this do that I can't already do with Magellan?

  • More potentially (ir)relevant info: I think Thor about covers everything that Sunrizer can do on the iPad.
On small screen devices it's worth it because it's quite cheap and there aren't many synths available.

It will change its BPM but won't stay in sync for long.

I find it easier to get what I want from sunrizer. It seems to me it has a broader range of sounds. I sometimes feel magellan sounds good until you turn off the effects, then everything goes a bit shallow.

It sounds better (IMO)and has a (imo much)better user interface. There are a lot of additional banks available for free and theres even one with some lush classic string ensemble sounds. They have this typical"stardust"sound that you dont hear very often in a digital synths.I love it!
I never use Magellan (in fact i hate the interface) but sunrizer is always one of my"to go"synths. And lighter on the cpu as well.

  • Sunrizer can load microtuning files. Quite unique I think.

The sound I find average, nothing special. Well maybe one thing, you can morph between two presets.

  • Thanks, snapped this up immediately. Beautiful sounds, nice interface. Great bargain!

  • Purchased, thanks for the heads up. Here's the App Store link.

  • 2.99!? This thing is amazing. Thanks for that @dokwok.

  • i know i'm in the minority here, but after holding out on Sunrizer for so long and picking up many of the other synths out there before it, i can't say i really love it so far ... only played around with it for a couple hours though.

it's ok, and i think i might get to really like the arp on it - but i don't think this was a 'must-have' synth for me personally - I prefer Thor, Magellan, iSem, Nave, and maybe even iMini over this. at least it was only $3, so no complaints at all here - it's good to have another synth in the rack right?

  • I wonder if anyone has managed to use microtuning .scl (Scala) files together with VSTi synths. From my attempts Sunrizer is always out of tune. When loading an .scl file into Sunrizer, and the same .scl file into Aalto, Sunrizer is always out of tune. Base note settings are ignored by Sunrizer when an .scl file is loaded, but also detuning oscillator 2 does never line up with Aalto.

It is rather easy to line up Aalto and Diva. One just has to convert the .scl file to a .tun file, load it into Diva, detune Diva by 17 semitones in the host, and voila, both synths are perfectly in tune.

With Sunrizer this seems not possible. Why? Has anyone managed to play Sunrizer together with other microtuned synths?

  • Whenever I need to test something midi....Sunrizer is my go to synth...solid!

  • I got several of the (much cheaper) iPhone versions of these synths first, and progressed to some of the iPad versions, waiting for sales along the way. Sunrizer on iPad definitely did not disappoint because there are so many presets available for it! I also really like the interface.

Arctic ProSynth is a quality synth, but I'm a little less excited about it, and it feels like less people use/support it.

Magellan on iPhone is probably my favorite of all of them - if I ever see that price dip below $14.99, I'll snap it up on iPad as well.

  • regarding microtuning and lining up to VSTi's: of course one just has to use a host to set the root note (because Sunrizer cannot set a root note once an scl file is loaded).

Setting the MIDI output going to Sunrizer to -17 or -29, Sunrizer lines up perfectly to other VSTi's. Problem solved.

  • Sunrizer remains a longtime MVP App for me. I have lots of other synths -- and several sound better. But Sunrizer it's easy and quick to find great sounds on Sunrizer.
