LumaFusion users - Question about Storyblocks Subscription

Hi Luma Fusion users ... considering purchasing this and would be looking to take out the StoryBlocks subscription for video content.

About the Storyblocks bit ...

  1. Is this an "Unlimited Downloads" subscription? (Storyblocks\Videoblocks offer different subscription packaes)
  2. Are the video\audio clips usable\accessible in other apps or are they locked to LumaFusion in some way?

If YES and YES, then LumaFusion would be a cheaper way of obtaining a Videoblocks subscription as well as obtaining an excellent iPad video editing tool.

Thanks for your help
Richard

  • Storyblocks is available via LumaFusion?

  • edited May 2020

Yup as an IAP ... if it’s unlimited and resources are available outside Lumafusion, then the prices below are a huge discount on normal subscription rates.

  • Interesting and very cool. I'd like that very much. I have LumaFusion already.

  • Found this - "You must purchase the Storyblocks for LumaFusion subscription to use the integrated Storyblocks content. The Storyblocks for LumaFusion subscription only gives you access to this content within the LumaFusion app. If you already have a Storyblocks subscription from their website, you can still manually import media that you've downloaded from the Storyblocks site."

  • I use LumaFusion quite a bit but I’ve stopped using Storyblocks because I found the content a bit generic. But I only use it to stitch together academic lectures, so maybe the Storyblocks content is good but just not for my purposes?

  • Also, seems like content might be different and limited.

Fair enough... My question was about the nature of the subscription though, whether it allows unlimited downloads and whether the content can be accessed by other apps.

Yes, sorry, I didn’t answer your question. As far as I know, one can only use Storyblocks from within LumaFusion. I did subscribe for a while to Blocks but quickly found I wasn’t using it, so cancelled.

    Hi,

I can answer this. If you have the Storyblocks subscription you can download clips via Lumafusion only. That just means that you can't use your creditials to download via their website. Once you download them within Lumafusion, they're in your files and you can move and use them elsewhere if you wish. Not just Lumafusion.

The content isn't the entire Storyblocks library. It's a collection for Lumafusion. Although it's not the whole enchilada, it's a pretty large collection. I can find something on pretty much every search term I've tried.

Some of the content is generic, but that's pretty much the same with all the collections. You can find plenty of good stuff in there.

It ALSO includes soundtrack stuff, music, sound fx, loops, video backgrounds... etc.

For the money, if you have a regular need for stock stuff, it's actually a pretty good deal.

I think you can search the whole thing within Lumafusion though, you can view pretty much everything to see what you've got access to. You just can't download into Lumafusion unless you're a subscriber.

That’s very helpful thanks! Was trying to get a sense of how it compared to a standard Videoblocks subscription but if it’s a limited library it’s probably too much use for the projects I have in mind.

"Limited" is kind of a strong word. I'd guess it's maybe a third of their entire library, and it's a fairly decent curation.

If you have Lumafusion... just go to the Storyblocks icon within Lumafusion, select what you want to search (videos, backgrounds, loops, sounds, fx, etc... pretend you're looking for stuff for a project and enter a few keywords, and see what you get back. I did this and consistently got stuff back that I could use.

I don't know if you do this commercially, but if you're cutting small projects for clients and can just add $50 here and there in the billing for stock stuff... then it doesn't take long to make back that $69/yr fee and profit even. :)

Edit: Or, do this.... think of some search terms for a possible project, search them in Lumafusion. Then do the same search of their site to see what kinds of returns you get.

I will say that when you search the same terms in Lumafusion, a second time, or on another iOS device... it appears at first that the results are different. They're not. It's the same results that are just in a different order. I'm not sure why that is. If seen the same in other stock searches though. Maybe it's to give the illusion of a bigger variety.

Just be aware of that when you're comparing your search results from the their website vs via Lumafusion

Thanks ... I do use it commercially but not often. Some projects do require generic content e.g. sunsets, business meetings etc, which Videoblocks is ideal for.

I guess a third of the full library is still a large selection as you say. Would be interested to find out how many clips are available in total via Lumafusion.

I don't remember exactly. But I vaguely remember it being significant.

I just did a quick search. I've got my iPad and Lumafusion open. I've also got Storyblocks site open on my desktop.

I searched "immigrant children". (I do a few shareable PSAs every now and then for a non-profit)

Storyblocks in Lumafusion returned the exact same 5 videos.

    I then searched "Solar Flare"

    Storyblocks site returned 49 results

Storyblocks Lumafusion returned 30 results. They were also within the 49 site results.

Their unlimited video-only (does not include audio) yearly fee from the site is $199, with Lumafusion being $69 AND including audio... seems like a much better value to me.

Thanks again - this is exactly why I was looking to compare the two approaches. If the libraries are the same, and the resources can be used elsewhere it's definitely worth a pop.

  • Hi there,

I’m doing hobby mountain bike videos and just want a few audio soundtracks, is there a place I can get some for free at all without spending £59 a year? I can’t really justify this after buying LumaFusion for £25, I had been using other software but they tended to have free music…

  • Maybe just ask people here? I imagine a lot of people would be happy to offer up music for your video just to help out. As an avid mountain biker myself, you’re welcome to use any of my songs if you want. I did a few for Ryan Leech and his videos awhile back.
