iPad and Roland SE-02
Does anyone know how I might be able to connect my iPad to my Roland SE-02? The iPad can’t see it as Roland saw fit to not make it class compliant...
I can connect it when I have my MacBook also connected, but would like to be able to just hook up my iPad and see the SE-02.
Anyone got any ideas how this might be possible? Is there any kind of hardware I could connect that would make non-class compliant hardware visible to my iPad?

Yes, use the MIDI port!
Can't think of another simple solution because USB drivers aren't usually available for Raspberries or Arduinos 😅
My simple rule is that with any hardware I might use together with an iDevice, it must either have class-compliant USB MIDI or hardware MIDI ports to plug in Bluetooth MIDI dongles.
Yeah, this is why I dodged the SE02. Nice sounding box, but not class-compliant for usb to an iPad. @michael_m You're gonna have to buy a midi/audio interface.
That’s a pretty good idea. Might be an extra step to unplug MIDI cables and plug a dongle in, but that should work. Thanks!
I use a Roland Um one MkII usb midi interface with usb c hub for my ipad pro. Would be great if there was an ios editor for it, i love the Studio Electronics editor for windows and it would be awesome if they done an ios version.
Yamaha BT01 works well with SE02. Annoying that we can't use USB.
Focusrite 6i6 v2 midi, analog. I trust roland analog outs more than their usb audio interfaces. I also use the ext box that was designed by studio electronics to add dual analog outs, distortion, and hipass filter to your se-02

I've since shoved the SE-02 under my monitor where it's hard to use. But that's because my OB-6 desktop is directly in front of it, and I don't have a lot of space on my desk. Nor am I using the SE-02 as much. When I want to use the SE-02, I manage to switch it on, then use the UI I made, based off someone else's work, in MIDI Designer Pro on an ancient iPad to control it (access to most everything, plus some XY pads).
Nice! This stand has made the se-02 more fun and accessible for me. I can slide my Qunexus right underneath the stand when im not using it.

That's pretty cool, and it would mean I have more options for routing cables as the supports are a closed frame that would help guide them.
So does an iPad see the SE-02 when connected to the BT01 via Bluetooth?
Sure, like any other MIDI device.
The UD-BT01 won't work of course, but the MD-BT01 will.
