I did that at 21 way before any hair loss and now 20 odd years later I still do it although if it grew in now I imagine it would be somewhat thinner in places.
Started losing mine mid 20s but kept the remnants until some time after my late wife of 29 years died. Met someone else much younger and stayed together for 14 years. She encouraged me to shave it all off and, since you broached the subject, @LinearLineman
I have had much more sex without my hair than with it... interesting that you hoped for a complimentary effort from your wife. Though not quite as old, I do have a preference for women with hair rather than without... which is probably a reflection of my formative years. 
Good move on clipping it off! I started receding in my twenties. Nobody wants to go bald, I feel your pain, but the best thing to do is just accept it, shave it off, and move on. Unless you are one of that rare and enviable breed of dudes who manage to rock long hair and baldness at the same time.
Make a decision now never to let your balding bother you, just embrace it, or at least stop worrying about it. There are far worse afflictions in this world than balding 😛.
I was in the same place as you WAY back then. I went through periods of shaving my head and growing what left I had back out. Then Covid came about and I said screw it. Shaved it again. Unless science finds a way to grow it back I just appreciate how low maintenance it is like this. Ironically more people have said it looks good than I thought would.
If you shave it, it’ll grow back (fast in my case) and you can reconsider. Honestly this is the perfect time to do it.

I can remember my confidence being impacted a little by the onset of hair loss, but there soon comes a realisation that, while some women definitely dislike it, there are an abundance of women, and men if you're so inclined, of all ages, who find baldness attractive. Great hair is not a particularly reliable measure of your attractiveness, unless you're a young rock star perhaps... there's much more to it than that. As men, we're conditioned (unfortunately much advertising still attempts to do this) to find certain physical attributes attractive, but in practice, it's often the eyes that I notice first... hair is often just as irrelevant. You should certainly not let baldness dampen your confidence.

Singer and bass player. I slept with one of them. My piano was in a photographer’s loft in this building. I was homeless and happy. Often slept under my piano cover in the loft. Delivered the Village Voice one day a week. Bliss.

This is my quarantine plan. My hair in the front has slowly been receding and thinning for 20 years, I was buzzing it for the past 10 years and I haven't cut it since CA lockdown started and I'm just going to go with it and embrace it. I think my hair will be closer to a younger Larry David.

Unless I’m going against the wind, you wouldn’t notice any hair loss at all with me - I can still pull off a reasonable Pat Boone show era Syd Barrett look, though greyer, and with an old mans face.
What I miss with all this head shaving we have these days, is the old 70’s comb over. There was real skill there.
My dad was as bald as an egg, apart from a small patch at the base, around the back. So he’d grown a long strand - must have been a couple of feet long - and wrapped it around the top of his head to form a nest. As a kid I’d hide behind his chair, carefully pick one of the strands, and slowly unwind it until he noticed and told me to ‘feck off’.
I think he was hoping for a bit of genetic karma, but I seem to have inherited my alcoholic grandfathers genes. And so as a teen and twenty something, I had the most amazing Bolan/May big hair, a constant annoyance for him, even more so than the nest unraveling.
Go to Walgreens, get a clipper, do it.
You will look younger, brighter, cleaner.
It feels great in the shower,
and feels great just to be done with it at all other times.
It must be really difficult to lose your hair. Even calling it hair loss. It's not lost, they're all in a box.
Is there a form of body dysmorphia that comes with hair loss? Or maybe it's the boiling frog thing, losing it hair by hair over the course of years and letting what's left grow into a very long fringe. So long that you can comb it twice around your noggin, eh Donald?
I imagine that those who shave it off are the type of men (let's not even consider those unfortunate women) who grasp the nettle whenever it pokes out from the wasteland of life. That baldspot never stood a chance.

My grandfather was bald, and my father's started to get thin while he was in his 20's, and he ended up bald as well. I was convinced that I would be bald also, and started noticing a bald spot in my early 30's. So I decided to say FUCK IT and grew it out, thinking that this would be my last shot at the long hair I'd always wanted but was too cowardly to commit to. I figured that it would look silly but I could at least say that I'd had long hair at one point.
So I grew it. And I haven't gone bald. And now I'm happier with my own appearance than I have been at any other time in my life. Strange that it took me 40+ years to grow my hair long, like I'd wanted to since I was a pre-teen, and when I finally did I loved it and decided to stick with it. Who knew?
So yeah - got the balding spot at the crown, but it seems to have halted and here's hoping it stays as it is so I can milk this look a while longer....
Cut my son's hair last night. I did mine with the clippers after and he helped with the back of mine. After he said, "you look like you just got our of prison!". That's my boy.
