My recent creations.
Hiya all,
I've been deep in creation mode for awhile now
inspired by the capabilities of certain apps, learning
new things and basically doing what I do anyway
which is writing music.
A new subscriber to my YouTube channel kindly
gave me a couple of pointers so I'm going to share
them with you.
Here they are.
i. "How did you come up with your track idea?
ii. What soft/plugins did you use (except Drambo:-)) ?
iii. How did you produced the brass/winds/strings sounds?"

A good question, I've been a composer for most of my
life as well being a professional multi-instrumentalist etc.
I express myself using Art as I am primarily an Artist.
I needed to encapsulate for myself my own feelings
about what has been going on Worldwide.
In essence a musical reflection of how I feel.
When you listen to my three most recent pieces you
will realise that they are all much longer then the
standard 3.31 seconds for an industry hit.
Eventually I will add the details to each piece but
as you're my only audience that would appreciate
the sheer effort gone into each piece at the moment
I'm writing this here.
I have two ways of working that I developed for myself.
As a musician, I'm a sideman and an M.D,
a part of the support structure as it where.
In the studio I'm an Artist.
So on stage I perform with a band or bands as I work
freelance and when I'm in the studio I do studio things like
delving into apps like Drambo or BM3 for my creations.
I'm currently learning how to merge the
two ways of working using the iOS platform.
So that's answer i. with a little bit of background and a touch of waffle.

I've listed the apps that I've used in the three most recent
pieces in the credits at the beginning of each piece and given
as much information in regards to sample source
i.e The LoopLoft for some of the drum samples.
I will add the details of the apps used in the YouTube details
though I have added them to the tags when uploading from LumaFusion
other than that, the sounds are almost entirely iOS generated.
I'll double check that...
Definitely generated only on my iPad for sure.
iii.
All of the brass, wind and string sounds come from two apps,
iSymphonic factory sounds and the BeatHawk IAP's,
"String Ensembles, Tutti Orchestra and Brass Ensembles".
The parts where written in Drambo whilst I was learning
how to play with the Drambo ,'ARP's module' , then bounced
down in AUM as individual stems,
I currently have four BeatHawks running with four instances of Drambo
as sequencers for these pieces and then exported out to Auria Pro.
The exception is ,'dReam', which was a live screen recording
of my 1st attempt at live arranging of which I then exported the audio out,
imported into Auria Pro to fix a tearing sound that happened
during the screen recording due to the graphics not being
fast enough and then Aurio Pro for subsequent Mastering.
I'm currently in the middle of writing a few more pieces
otherwise I would've written this last week.

@Gravitas Wow Ishmael...the "dReam" piece is unbelievable. The other two were very cool too, however the symphonic instrument sounds added a more rooted to Earth thing. Not a bad thing at all. The entire "dReam" piece is just so out there in the best possible way. Love the hypnotical rhythms going on, it was really cool to hear the elements break away out of sync and then for a few rotations everything would sound in sync...the effect is startling.
The visuals just add icing to the cake. Usually I can take or leave visual "companion" pieces but to me this project should be looked at as a whole. The subtle suggestion of a vinyl record & the bars resembling level meters just really gelled together. Wow. Excellent work. I'm listening again as I type this. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you, it felt like it when I was writing the piece.
'dReam', is the first complete piece that I've written using Drambo
as the main sequencer and sound processor.
The orchestral sounding pieces were my continued exploration
into good string sounds on the iOS platform and the combination of
iSymphonic and BeatHawk's IAP's is a good one.

The ,'dReam', piece was almost entirely created in
Drambo except for some of the drum sounds.
I had discovered the impulse and waveguide modules in
Drambo and did the most obvious thing which was to recreate
polyrhythms in 2, 1/5 and 1/6 using the ARP module which
were then reset at various points so that it created sub cycle rhythms
rather than the expected polyrhythms which works wonderfully
with the arp module creating little melodies.
The sound I used for that I've affectionately called ,'Squish'
I had so much fun creating that sound though it isn't that complicated.
As you can tell I love polyrhythms.

Indeed I do see these pieces as a whole.
I'm enjoying the journey and that for me is always a good sign.

Nice. Really like dReam as well. Started off thinking it was going to be classic IDM piece, but as more elements came in, I started getting an Eno-era Talking Heads vibe!

I used to listen to both Eno and Talking Heads a lot when I was younger.
There was this sound that Eno had created for one of his pieces,
I can't remember the name of it now but I can describe the sound.
It was a piano sound which turned into a choir when sustained long enough.
I was fascinated by this so I grabbed my Roland Soundcanvas and
layered a piano sound with a choir sound with the choir sound
set to a long attack time.
It was wonderful.

Music for Airports? Definitely a touchstone for me, but I generally just like the way he thinks.
The original was an amazing process with massive, 50-70 foot tape loops; would have been quite something to see.
But, yes, it's a wonderful thing when you start to figure out how to make the sounds you want to hear.

I remember seeing my first 24trk reel to reel.
Now, I have an iPad.
It's been so long since I've listened to Eno that
