Something about you left handed cats...Good Lord! Incredible playing & the palette of tones was just unreal; that snarky nasally bit around 4:15 on is goosebump inducing.
What was the backing track? Kinda sounded like a live or live in studio recording with just the bass & drums because a faint guitar could be heard in the beginning. Drums are recorded really well so I don't know if it could be an actual Hendrix thing from Electric Ladyland studio jams or not.
Either way just insane Flo, really some next level playing...
@JRSIV ,thanks sooooo muchhh for your kind words.
It has really moved me☺️.
Here is a link to the video:
That was another very instructive video for my fumbling guitar efforts. It open the world of the GE Labs user community of Presets. The 2 items in your video that glow with aqua light are user uploaded presets for an FX Stomp Drive unit and one of the Marshall Pre-Amps (Jtm45).
In the GE Labs universe all branded amps are Pre-Amps and the Power Amps are focused on Tube Types
(6V6) in this example.
GE Labs pricing model is cool... everything is unlocked to use and you pay for the privilege of saving personal presets. I think downloading a complete sample is really another way to have a handy "preset".
So, if you can download these samples for free you can get really quick access to some custom "presets" in addition to the factory presets to use.
GE Labs software comes from the hardware product company Mooer that make Multi-FX Guitar Pedals so their software is a "loss leader" intended to be used to upsell to these hardware products. If more people like the IOS Amp Sim "samples" they will buy the hardware, right? Enjoy the subsidized product while you can. Pricing strategies can always change. If people buy less hardware, we're next to see product pricing inflation.
That's pretty awesome playing, Flo!
You inspired me to start searching the GE Labs cloud and check some of the amp options out.
I wish someone cloud help give a context to the way real guitar players think of "clean" versus "OD" (or maybe "lead"). Is it typically just a change in pre-amp GAIN that dials in distortion/saturation for the non-clean version?
Good track/guitar Flo ..... like how you got the Hendrix blues bend up and release on adjacent string thing down fluidly.
While Band of Gypsies was definitely a high peak .... the European tour of early January and Febuary 1969 has some Hendrix
peaks too ..... check this Sonic attack of guitar as controller of multiple Marshall Stacks ... sound quality is poor... but the performance is "other worldly" ...... the aptly titled "i don't live today"
Most of the amps are not really good.
Search for preamps, and mix them with your power amp of choice.
You can get really good things out of it.
Flo
For clean sounds,I often set-up-up my amps on the crunch side, and then, adjust to my taste with my left hand and my volume pot.
Thanks for the link.
I’m actually watching hendrix at the royal albert hall.
It’s fantastic!
Flo
Thanks!
I forgot for a moment that you are left handed and did not get your meaning. You adjust the controls on the Luke guitar (using your left hand but right for me) and adjusting the relative input of the 3 pickups with tone. Got it, I think.
Now I need to find the crunch edges using the gain knob I suspect. I duplicated your Hendrix settings and can see that my pickups are probably thin compared to yours. I have some more guitars to get out and continue learning about how everything fits together to create various tones. GE Labs is growing on me for the kinds of sounds I'd like to make and IAA is fine except for the extra steps to switch screens in the DAWs. I can get a lot of good sounds from the AUv3 Nembrini's too for my tastes so it depends on
what I'm up to. It's good to have choices. I like the tone quality of the TH-U too for my preferences and hope they continue to polish their catalog for IOS users adding AUv3 and more apps.
I think he means that he controls the clean/crunch tones with the intensity of his picking as well as the volume pot, dynamics in your picking can make a lot of difference to the tone and volume.
Good point. He finds that crunch point and then works that area. I have a long way to go yet learning
about how to work an Amp using IOS apps exclusively so these tips help.
Not really sure Ge labs is or what is going on with the backing track but some awesome shredage for sure! The lead playing reminds more of like Steve Morse than Hendrix.
