Sebastian Mullaert's Circle Of Live - Incredibly Inspiring. Watch This!!!
I had the honor of seeing a more stripped down version of this right before quarantine began, it was a nonstop 6 hour set and was absolutely incredible. His "Circle of Live" series is always evolving, adding in new players depending on where it is that night.
The way everything is setup and how they are all using analog is so cool. It got me inspired to start doing something similar, and ive been figuring out how to use my Ipad as one of brains of the operation, along with my macbook pro and ableton.
first video is an introduction to the series, and some behind the scenes. Well worth the 17min watch if you make any electronic music at all.
second video is a larger clip of the performance.
would love to hear your guys thoughts!

great concept and delivery. Too much rhythmically oriented for me, but with great freedom of improvised performance, much more so than I have been blessed to experience in my surroundings. To me, this is the future of music...
So much going on there. First question I had before hearing a note is how do they sync everything.
That was answered early in the first video.
Love how they work without getting in each other’s way.
Trying to recognize gear as this method of music making is unfamiliar to me.
Looks like among other things Sebastian is using a Boss (RC 505?) looper.
I’m sure you all know what most of this stuff is.
I’m loving it. The visuals are amazing too. Thanks for posting.
@animal i agree, its almost like a band jamming, but with synths, drum machines etc. very cool how they can all come in and out all in sync. Much better than just watching a dj sync two beats on cdjs.
@Ben definitely a lot going on. I know that sebastian uses the looper you mentioned, as well as some various drum machines, i think a TR8 being one of them. He also uses a juno, some various fx pedals and a handful of other synths and noise makers, as well as some sub mixers that then get sent out to the house mixer. Ableton with a push is also used to launch clips as well as using some FX and i think some synths. There are some more videos on youtube he did with ableton where he explains his setup in detail if your curious. Hes a really cool dude too, very down to earth in all his videos and happy to share the knowledge, his philosophy to music making and life is general is something i aspire to. Glad you liked it!
Excellent thanks for sharing. I used to watch Minilogue gigs on YouTube before they disbanded.
@craftycurate yes!! minilogue was great!
glad you enjoyed
Did you see the one they did in their cabin in the woods?
I love that room, it's been a dream of mine since I first saw it.
@craftycurate yes! so cool. i love the behind the scenes video from the same series, the philosophy behind their work and a healthy approach to creation and living life fullly. Also a great jam session.
this ones pretty cool too. The circle of live i saw was sebastian and Vril.
which btw, if you arent familiar with Vril, check this album out. really deep, dark melodic stuff.
@Tarekith right! such a dream. would love to have a studio that intertwined with nature. im actually getting an air bnb way off grid in joshua tree tomorrow for a few days to hone in and finalize a few mixes.
Something very freeing about men in kilts making electronica in the woods 😬
Awesome I’ll check those out too thanks ... also found an additional set from Circle of Live on Spotify if you use that ... https://open.spotify.com/album/2sCSfJEpU5gxYQiRftYo7l?si=a6aHySs3QkSBl8f6pcPlqg
Great video btw OP, I really enjoy this sort of thing.
@Tarekith glad you enjoyed it. Happy to share
