Listening and charging at same time

Just seeing what experiences people have had with these adaptors. Think the one Apple push is the Belkin at £30. Much cheaper ones are available. Any good or bad to avoid? Thanks

  • Nothing works as well, or as regularly, without fault, as the official Apple CCK.

    +1

Anytime I've tried to save a few pennies the device just stops working after a bit or not at all.

When I bought my first MP3 player many years ago I thought Apple products were too expensive. I found out the player I bought could not access all of its own memory so the number of songs I could load to it was limited. They were supposed to do a firmware upgrade that would access all of the memory. Upon doing a little research I found they had been promising this for over six months at the time.

I bought an iPod. That was about 15 years ago. I still have it and it still works. FWIW

Are you asking about Lightning adapters or USB-C?

  • If you are talking about the Camera Connector Kit, you pretty much have to go apple.

  • Just a headphone jack and lightning (no usb) for iPhone. If lightning is what Apple call their weird little connector..sorry, not very good at Apple lingo!

  • I feel like I've wasted more money than saved it by buying non-Apple connectors/adapters (due to failures, frustrations, etc.), so I would definitely look for whatever Apple recommends to do this.

However, there's the MFI certification that Apple gives to third-parties that meet their standards, so I would consider any third-party products that have that certification.

  • I know I feel for ya. I had to learn that lesson the hard way too. But luckily I learned it on cheap charging cables, not adapters. Anyways I digress...

Yea the mfi gives you a much better chance of working properly and for a regular charging cable that should be fine. However when talking adapters that transfer data, and are often critical to your music setup, Apple products are the only sure bet.

Real Apple products are also surprisingly hard to find on certain sites because many manufacturers try to make their item look exactly like Apple, and even sometimes put Apple in the description. So either order directly from Apple or be very thorough when ordering from Walmart, Amazon, etc. make sure it says Apple in the manufacturing details, and the price is in range. Most likely the Apple Camera Connection Kit with charging port Will be $39 (Without charge $29) I just got one with charging port a few months ago, since I only had one without the charging port, and the charging port is pretty much a necessity, so I had to upgrade.

  • Get what you pay for seems to be the verdict. Have to part with some cash then! Thanks to all for advice, much appreciated

I got 2 of those on ebay for about $15 each and they work great to listen and charge. I have a 6s, but I need to have the adapter on hand for sound gigs for the times when people need to plug in their phone for audio and NEVER have the adapter (which is every time).

  • I have one something like this, that I purchased in 2017. It hasn't ever failed as long as I plug things in the right order.

  • Thanks for info and link. Was hoping a budget version would get a thumbs up!
