I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it last year. Cheers. :)

  • Yeah. That sounds authentic. What tools were used?

Thanks mate. :) I produced "San Juanito" in Nanostudio 2. For the "real" instruments, I used acoustic guitar loops for the guitars (as I tried other methods, including playing them live, and I couldn't get it to sound natural/the way I wanted it to sound), tried many different flutes until I heard a demo of "Jubal Flute" and was like "holy shitballs THAT'S THE SOUND", and I used Sensual Sax for the "Kenny G" break. Other instruments were either synthesized from scratch in Obsidian or, again in the case of the "Kenny G" break, were acoustic instrument presets in Obsidian. Since Jubal Flute is a monophonic instrument, I used two instances of it.

The drums were from Sounds of KSHMR Vol 3 and this DJ Rafy Reggaeton pack for that "dembow" flavour.

As far as effects are concerned, I used the internal effects for mixdown. For mastering, I used MagicDeathEyeStereo (I love this plugin since I can just flip a switch and shave off below 20Hz without the need to use an EQ), NS2's Stereogain (to adjust the output to -15dB so it doesn't feed too much into Barkfilter), BarkFilter Triple Band preset, and Pro-L2.

  • Nice track. Takes me away to somewhere warm!

    Thank you mate. :)

  • I think you posted those videos of great Ecuadorean ladies and gents? Please repost. Virtually authentic. Good job!

Thank you so much! :D And yes, here is the video.

It's one of my favourites to watch. Also, if you have Spotify, check out Ecuador Manta, especially the "Ritmos Raices" album.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic I loved this! I've been into the Chilean band Inti-Illimani since 98, they had a number of albums of traditional Andean music in the 70s, one song is actually called San Juanito as well. My wife and one side of her family is Ecuadorean, so this has even more reason to hit home, thanks a lot for sharing!

That's amazing mate! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Thank you. Hopefully you show this to your wife.

I've listened to Inti-Illimani and Wayanay as well in the past. I simply recommended Ecuador Manta since I've seen them perform live whenever they came to Milwaukee for the Wisconsin State Fair and at Summerfest. They haven't been around in the past 3 years, but I've watched them live since the 90s when they first arrived in Milwaukee. So I grew up with this beautiful music.

Truth be told, I wish UVI would release some of their Ecuadorian/Andean sounds for Beathawk, especially since we don't have an authentic playable charango on iOS yet. (Although come to think of it, now that we have the soundfonts app, I could just track down a Charango soundfont, lol.) It's scary good how closely Jubal Flute sounds like a quena.

  • You guys would like the band Huayucaltia. They've been at it for more than three decades now. Excellent guitarist.
