Strung / KApro Cello (now with reverb)
Thanks @Samu. Your instructions for creating midi in Cubasis from a Korg Module patch worked almost perfectly. The only change was I had to leave the speaker on in the KayPro analog cello track to have it work.
So, the lead voice is a quite beautiful sounding Orchestral Dreams cello. Backed up with a Thumbjam violin and a BeatHawk viola section. For the repeat the cello continues with BeatHawk double bass section and (for you @ThinAirX) PureSynthPlatinum Marimba2.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Keith Jarrett lately. Strangely, but definitely, inspired by his wringing expressiveness. Improvised with no midi editing.
With reverb... (Kleverb Medium Ensemble Hall)

@LinearLineman
Lovely textures.
Soothing, expressive.
Thoughtful though a little melancholic,
that could be me I must admit.
I also hear joy and hope,
more joy and hope than anything else.
It's a wonderful piece of music.
Thank you and congratulations are
in order in regards to the jazz label.
You must be chuffed.
This was unexpectedly moving. Thank you.
Cool. You have your eyes set on Symphony Hall with these great sampled sounds. Back deep into the acoustic mysteries of the 1800's. Very moving. The harmonic choices seem
very well paced for the illusion of an ensemble of that late romantic classical period.
By far the best thing I’ve heard you do.
That is absolutely lovely, Mr Levy.
Beautiful work Mr. Lineman. Melancholic for sure, in the best way. Bravo.
Nice one as always
I really enjoyed that... beautiful.
Nice! And reminds me... When is the new Geoshred update with SWAM sounds coming out! I hope you have an mpe controller, because I'm sure you could do beautiful stuff with that pairing.
1950 or 1850 and maybe in thirty years 2050. I would like a soupçon of reverb also, but without it the piece, at least from the start to 2.40 (before marimba), actually sounds more live as though here in the living room...and the second half feels just a little softer somehow....anyway, enough wittering, very good.
@Gravitas, thanks, Ishmael. It’s my sixth cd on the New Artists label. Only this time there’s no CD, just a download. Much better! Hopefully we’ll say the same about dongles one day. Btw, it’s not you... it’s the minor scale. Thanks for the kind words.
@Philandering_Bastard, always expect the unexpected on ABF! Thanks. Your support is much appreciated, @McD. Thank you. @TheOriginalPaulB, by far the nicest thing you’ve ever said about my stuff. Thanks!
Thanks for liking it @ReflectiveHaze. I’m on a clarity kick, these days... like a sugar free diet. Thanks so much, Mr. @JeffChasteen. Hope all is well by you and yours. And thank you @Ben for the kudos.
Thanks for the continued listening @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr. Your support helps me out. Gratitude @rcf. I hope you will keep listening! @JohnnyGoodyear, I moved the cello to the left from center around there, I think and lowered the volume. Thanks for the comments, my friend.
@Gavinski, no hardware MPE but I have used the Noise MPE. Here’s an example,,,
Beautiful.
Strung could also be composed by Arvo Pärt.
Big respect! I like it very much. I would had added a bunch of hall/reverb.
🤙🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
Sounds really lovely. Of course it would sound much better with some legato lines which would make it much more expressive but you really get some amazing out of these tools. Thank´s for the share.
@ReflectiveHaze, @JohnnyGoodyear, @Satie. Ok, ok! I added a soupçon with Kleverb Medium Ensemble Hall. Does that do it??
(Yes, I like it better, thanks!)
@satiw, thanks for the generous comparison! @Clueless, thanks for listening. Much appreciated.
Yup, lovely job. I second the Pärt comparison, there's definitely more than a hint here.
All that's now needed is the odd faint cough from the middle of the recital hall and perhaps a slight chair scuffle. Must surely be a 'Classical Verité' sample pack somewhere out there
That’s lovely.
Where is the opening cello sound from exactly?
This is your best yet.
I noticed the lack of reverb first time round. Definitely better with. Very nice indeed.
Thanks for this lovely start to my foggy morning ... very elegant and expressive samples ... and beautifully put together - even found some Bach-like progressions in there.
Not sure about the marimba - can see what you're getting at - but to my ear the marimba is a bit too percussive - clunks a bit when carrying a melody - might want to shave the attack back ... a celeste might do it - even a mandolin in parts ... very nice when it's quieter though ... lovely textures woven through the whole piece.
This will colour my day. Inspiring.
Have you considered "Sensual Sax" or maybe a little reverb-y cowbell... Nature 'Verb on the
Pasture Preset.
I'm sure you'll get the joke and this will keep the thread alive for a few more folks to notice that "This is you best work yet."
I would say it sounds the most composed... with nice harmonic motion: tension and release. It's general moving towards a goal and gets there in satisfying ways. It doesn't sound improvised. It even has elements of fugue-like leading melodies with voices that answer the theme in a new instrument. You don't usually use this traditional compositional techniques.
I wonder if you approached this one with a new approach to adding additional tracks rather that your two-handed improvisations that are then decorated with extra arrangement details and extra touches? Do you recall your approach this time?
@iansainsbury, thanks for listening. I must confess I had only heard of Arvo Part before I made this. Upon listening I can understand the comparison and appreciate the company.
@JohnnyGoodyear, unfortunately, coughing has gotten a very bad name recently. Thanks for checking it out.
@TimRussell, unadorned Korg Module Pro cello patch. This is a really great app with lots of interesting features, including playing a music library with any selectedt/tweaked patch.
@mjcouche, praise appreciated, now wtf do I do?
@Gavinski, thanks for your patience. It was good advice.
@Soundscaper, thanks for the affirmation ... what is all this marimba hate😳😉? Zappa would have loved it!
Thanks for bumping @McD, no, it is exactly the same method. Recorded very simple two hands using the cello voice. All tracks generated from that input. However, not using piano as the base instrument might have made a difference, not to mention all the Jarrett I have been listening to. It was just a very clear, unconscious moment.
@ReflectiveHaze, the marimba police are en route to your home to confiscate all your mallets! Thanks for hanging in there 😘.
Korg Module choir track later today. Really liking Module now that @samu splained how to get it to make midi. Thanks, everyone!
I love marimbas! Perhaps it’s finally time to finish my FZ/Ruth Underwood inspired piece on Gadget.
@iansainsbury, who doesn't love a marimba! I mean, even the name is loveable... and those wooden blocks just dying to get next to an aluminum stud.
I'd like to hear that. She was a hero of mine having studied percussion and knowing how hard she must have worked to master that music. She wouldn't play a note that wasn't place in front of her... traditional classical instrumental focus on being the instrument to render a composers vision. I like that we can craft complex music and NOT have to corral a small group of folks to hear the results and it still can sound acoustic.
Brilliant @LinearLineman If you played that to me and said it was the score to a Downton Abbey type drama on TV or a big budget Potter-esqe epic I wouldn't question it. Beautiful swoops and leaps from the melody strings and the marimbas to me were like rain or something, they added to the very meditative mood. Nice job brother...
@JRSIV, at last, a lover of the marimba! Thanks for the praise, my friend.
