Best powered hub?
Do all hubs generally work, or is there a particular “best” hub that works well with the latest iphones and ios?
Comments
..this Anker 10 port hub works great with my iOS devices. 'spose you might want usb-c tho for latest ?

Try and find a reputable hub with the power at one end and the outgoing usb on the other end.
power —— usb ports —— outgoing usb
You're desktop/mobile setup will thank you.
All hubs are definitely not created equal! I first tried a super cheap one but it didn’t work at all. Anker is solid though and they have a lot of varieties for how many inputs you need and seems if you check the site they have usb-c stuff now too if that’s what you need. This is what I’ve been using...

Should USB 3.0 hubs work with USB-C devices using a usb-A to Usb-c cable, or do you need an actual usb-c hub?
Asking this as I was lent a thunderbolt/usb-c only MacBook Pro for work and I couldn’t get my usb 3 hub to work, it’s left me slightly confused.
I have mostly been using my little 6 port Anker Hub to connect to audio interface and rarely used it with headphone plugged directly in. I am not sure if it was like this before, but I noticed today when using it with headphones plugged in that it has a pretty audible audio artefact that lasts for about a second after any audio goes silent. Does anyone else get this problem? God, I really hate apple for taking away the headphone jack. The last hub I had, Hyperdrive, also had less than ideal audio quality when using the headphone.
I’ve not found a single USB-C headphone adapter that gives me sound as nice as the headphone socket on my old iPad and it’s infuriating. Having spent several hundred pounds on a pair of headphones, it’s galling to have them reduced to the quality of a pair of £20 cheapies. I’ve got to the point where I’m trawling audiophile forums trying to find something suitable that has power delivery and at least one extra USB-C port so that I can connect controllers etc. ideally with a line-in too. I can’t find anything.
Just seen @Samu’s hunt for the same thing over here, let me know if you find anything chief, and I’ll keep you posted if I do.
Reading over this it makes me wonder if people are considering using powered hubs? Even if you dont need one with the usb C ipads, it seems better to pull power from elsewhere. I drew up a sketch ( a messy messy one) i hope it makes sense. ( i only have ⚡️ but with that said, this is compatible with all i have ( ipad4 , ipad air2, ipad2020 ⚡️& 🎧 )
Note, the top drawing is the more simple setup with only one ipad.
In the middle i drew my mpc one with the new CME Jack WIDI installed. They should be available very soon if not already. ( i got mine from hongkong yesterday after a week in customs) it works like amazingly awesome! If a person had a few of these they could certainly eliminate some cables and might be able to bypass even using a usb hub.....or use it for a hard drive or something else instead.
Then below i drew a version of what im using now, with the iconnectivity audio4+ (which ive mentioned so many times they should be paying me.) It has a usb jack in the back and can take a hub ( i believe up to 8 usb midi controllers). The cool thing is it has a built in digital mixer which you can configure via the ios app. Its wayyyyy confusing but has huge flexibility. NIN uses two of them in their live rig so that should kinda speak for itself. I have a powered hub running off it. Its all on a desktop at the moment but im thinking to mount it all in a flightcase once i decide whether to keep the beatstep/qunexus combo or expand. As is they fit together perfect and super compact. Anyway, i hope this expands the ideas of what is possible regarding hubs
