Hey, please don't mix binaural beats with binaural recordings.
While binaural recordings are stereo recordings made with an artificial head or in ear microphones, binaural beats are two sinewaves (one on the left and one on the right channel) with no more than 40 Hz difference between them.
As far as I know binaural beats are said to have several health benefits but the research is sketchy at best. At least BB17 Isn't advertising any supposed medical benefits.
And no, I don't have the synth.

  • @Philandering_Bastard I think the developer @PaulWand said something recently about being willing to let people on the beta? I got on the beta recently a while ago because I was curious about it. I have been too busy to really get stuck in, but it is a nice sounding synth for sure, for ambient etc in particular.

  • I went in on the beta, even helped a bit I think, which I love when I can. I like the sound but haven’t used it in anger yet, I often go to drc instead for the sort of mellow sounds it makes, haven’t fully explored the binaural nature of it, used to be well into that in the nineties. I’d use a freeware app that rendered them and then meditate to them for hours, ah the wasted youth of yesterday 🤣

  • i know nothing about music theory and the benefits of the tonal scale stuff within this app but i bought it a few weeks back and it is fun... you can get pretty creative with it in ways that are easier than with a subtractive synth approach... there’s4/5 videos on youtube worth watching but of course the synth can do more then shown there... if you want mellow sounding pads, leads, plucks you’ll get ‘em here...i don’t know how expansive the sound is past that i’ve really only done mellow stuff with it...i haven’t made much music in the past few months tho.
i like how you can swap out the wave forms up to 4 per instance... def worth having in the arsenal for when a beckons

    When did I do that?

  • Thanks all @Gavinski @Krupa @reasOne

It’s an interesting idea. Perhaps a few more in-depth videos could shed some light @PaulWand ?

  • @Philandering_Bastard
I thought because the second link you have provided was about binaural panning/recordings. I get it that the synth is mentioned in there too.

  • Got some pretty presets

No worries. Before asking my usual dumb questions I try to see whether the subject has already been discussed 🤪

  • Not yet, but I need to get on it because I dropped 5 bucks on it last night!

When I was a teen, I messed around a good bit with binaural recording using a wig head and two mic elements- “Lou Reed says it’s cool!”

Later, I experimented with binaural beats using two Heathkit Audio Oscillators.

I am interested in seeing what I can do with BB17.

  • I like BB17, but to really make it shine you have to use slow midi modulators (like the LFOs in ApeMatrix) on its parameters, including oscillator levels. It's cool also to play around the feedback start of the resonance. Needles to say, Alteza or the other Shimmer Verbs are also needed, set to taste. Make those faders play and the synth will sing :D

    Nice recipes.
    Will try them out later.
    🙂

  • Hey cool you noticed the sale!

There are some people that are making youtube videos with it:

I can say the next thing I’m working on is a bunch of just intonated scales based in traditional Indian ragas. My brother is in college for music and wrote an article on it, so intend to add them to the synth, but since it might make the drop-down too long, I plan to break out the presets into a tree navigation structure.

Last few updates have been largely for stability, which I'm currently happy with, I haven't been able to crash it in the latest version and I run a couple stress test programs to put it through the gauntlet.

I’ve been using BB17 for bass, AUM for mixing, Eventide reverb on everything neo-soul keys on the mid, Jubal Flute for lead, and mpc pro for drums. Very happy with the setup although i’m thinking to scoop the new chompler too!
As for some tutorial videos on the BB17, I think it would be good for me to explain how some things work, they would show up on my youtube channel:

Thanks for your interest, I have a feedback form feature requests and bug reports here: bit.ly/bb17feedback

Hi Paul, thanks for all the information. Sounds very promising. Do you know how long the sale will last?

  • edited June 2020

The current sale price will last until July 9th.

  • I made two jams with it last night. One is two tracks of BB-17 with one track of Model 15; the other is two tracks BB-17 with one of Shoom. I have very little understanding of what binaural beats are, but it gives a nice spacy vibe.

    Awesome!
Is the first and last sound in jam 1 BB17 or M15?

  • The synth is a strange one. The beats are supposedly having a mental 'effect' at different settings and degree of 'the detune' or whatever that is. Like gamma beta delta brainwaves. Need a scientist to prove if this works, but I like them and feel the slower ones make me want to throw up. Ha

Any luck looking for the brown note? 🤣

Bb17. M15 is the fizzy lead sound.

Bb17 is the first, bubbly sound. M15 is the last sound.

  • What’s the consensus here? It just got updated for the first time in a few years.

  • It’s one of those apps that mysteriously doesn’t show up on appsliced. Is 7.99 regular price?

For me, it’s $1 CA cheaper than what it used to be for regular price.. 9.99 now, 10.99 before.. Lowest price was $6.99 CA..

Last time I looked for it, it wasn’t even available in the AppStore..

    Got it, thanks

  • Well, it's the only musical MIDI binaural synth I know of! IT has mpe and midi works well. I just want to have a chart with the 'beats frequency's and the intended mental effect. I love to play the Lower notes, more drone binaural is sweet..There are tuning options that and poly ideas. I think that one note works the best for the effect. Then as you add voices and poly it gets dissonant if the detune is on a little, and the binaural sounds real umm scary at that point. So I want to know what's going on with thing in my mind. I get the idea a lil bit it. Anyway it's a weird one but you can also get some nice simple basics. Just re downloaded-- so fun times.

  • It seems like a good synth for drones based on the 1-2 YouTube demos I saw. I may just take the dive and see how it goes.

  • I notice the video that shows it being used in GarageBand has the dials moving while it’s playing. How was that accomplished? This is something I’m considering getting and haven’t heard it discussed much
