How is iLectric Piano?

Hello, I think I need a EP app, I think it is the best instrument ever designed, but it's very heavy and pricey, so, I need a sampled one. (Clavia stuff is more expensive than the original -.-)
I tried soul-keys but it's to "belly" for my tastes and it's a RAM sucker, I like some Bismark's soundfonts, like tine EP wet, but they are really noisy, so, is iLectric Piano a good investiment?

  • Yes, it's excellent. I'm not a keyboardist, but in the times I use it I think it sounds fantastic. I'm sure there are samples stretched across multiple keys because the file size is small, but I don't hear any obvious switching and it responds well to dynamics. It's on sale often, as are the IAP'S, but it's worth it a full price to sure if you need EP. I like igrand a lot as well.
Of course, if you are very much in a financial pinch, sampletank free has some ep's and garageband has a great bunch of ep's. I programmed some pretty cool EP patches with thor recently too, using the discovering reason tutorials on propellerheads site.

  • IMO iLectric and iGrand are the best pianos on iOS, they are a bit pricey but worth it for what you get. The full pack of iLectric is 295mb, so not to bad and it's OK on load. However pianos do seem to be a personal thing, I did a Piano comparison video ages ago on an iPad two, I test 8 of the most popular ones and used a Roland GW8 as a midi controller. The pianos tested are Garageband, Thumbjam, iLectric, iGrand, Neo Soul Keys, and a few others. Please be aware that it looks like there is a slight latency, there isn't it was me not syncing the audio with the video properly, hope this helps.

  • I did a quick recording of three of the pianos in ielectric:

  • Thank you for your advices! From the demo iGrand sounds very similar to a studio recorded piano, and from your clip, @richardyot, iLectric sounds very close to a vintage one! I'll try to wait until the next ik sale, I think it'll be hard to resist!

  • You won't be disappointed, in my opinion they are ik's best apps.

  • I decided to go for neo soul keys about a year ago and I still find it the best electric piano emulation short of the real thing, especially the suitcase. There is a lot of control within the app and you certainly can lower or take out the tine sound if you wished. After listening to Doug's tests I still find that app to be the EP king. Although I agree that the size and CPU drain is quite high but I've noticed that this is the case with most of my favourite sounding apps I.e. Animoog.

  • Is it possible to change the tuning in iLectric? For example A at 432 Hz

  • Is there an A=432Hz convention going on at the moment?...

lol I've noticed that too. The last guy who's suggested it became a 'deleted user'!

  • Lol, I don't use animoog because I can't set A at 432!

  • The real reason is that Everything is in its right place and Music is Math ar at 432Hz, I can't mess around with a standard tuning :)

Sorry, maths was never my forte

  • I really, really, really wish you could save presets in iLectric, particularly the eq and fx settings. The sounds are really great, though I've been intrigued by Neo Soul Keys (following the 'more is more' theory), so I'll be doing some digging.

  • I astounded that iLectric and iGrand still haven't been upgraded for iOS 8 and the latest Audiobus.

IK claims they will be updated by the end of the year.

  • I love Neo Soul Keys for recording, and Bismark with a few key Soundfonts for live use.

Looks like they missed their estimate.

  • As will happen from time to time, but we will share news as we have it. I appreciate your patience.
