Audiokit D1 AUv3 - only instance possible?
Tried in Cubasis and NS2 - Audiokit Digital D1 does not work if more then one instances are used.
In NS2 forum they say that it sees to be an issue with the Audiokit Framework and the are not able to fix this. The D1 could be such a beautiful multitimbral Synth....

I hope @analog_matt doesn't forget to update D1 with the AudioKit AUv3 Platinum libraries as it seems to work a lot better that the 'D1 Mess'. 808 Bass and the RetroPiano and AudioTune use the 'improved' AUv3 support and they work very well...
AUv3 Platinum 😂😂😂
Only until you are using 44/48khz mixdown... as soo as you try 96khz, also Retropiano is broken (in weird way - there are missing notes in mixdown).. Of course that is not problem for most people because most of hosts doesn't support 96khz mixdown
)))
Amazing!
He mentioned earlier in another thread that.... Here I'll link it.
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/37925/audiokit-d1-aum-very-hit-miss#latest
My personal take is that Audiokit should probably come clean regarding their AUv3 code and be completely honest about the current limitations. If the developers know what the limitations are, I would gain more respect for them if they gave clear advice about what conditions make their plugins unstable.
And calling the newer apps platinum AUv3 — even if it's improved — is just embarrassing. Many developers were releasing super-duper-platinum (iridium?) AUv3 code back in 2017. And it was just called AUv3.
I love the sound of FM2, for example, but I get all kinds of weird missing notes all the time in BM3, even when just using 1 instance.
I'd also love to use D1 in a track, but it just isn't stable enough.
My advice (whenever this comes up on the BM3 forum) is to only ever use one instance of an Audiokit-based AUv3 in your projects (applies to FM2, D1, etc) and, if possible, print that track to audio sooner than later.
In Cubasis (2) and NS2 it is just unusable. Even one instance gives up after some minutes... No response from support. Can‘t understand the Audiokit Hype.
Just keep telling a community that you are good for it, then find as many trendies as you can to hype you, job done.
there is also this totally wrong implementation of lfo/env -> filter modulation in Synth Ome or D1 which is not good especially for beginners who wants to understand basics of synthesis - because they umderstand it wromg way and then they are wondering why it works differently in any other synth...
Oh gosh, just waking up here in Atlanta on this fine Father's day.
I have busy morning with family, but let me try to help for a second. ☀️
Next month, we're completely releasing the full AUv3 source code that powers Bass 808/Retro Piano and other upcoming apps. We've been working with the fine devs of AUM/NS2/Cubasis 3 to fine tune. It's almost ready.
All developers can have the code. It'll be the most complete full app example code of AUv3. And, will hopefully solve a lot of compatibility issues with various hosts moving forward if there's finally a robust and canonical example of writing an AUv3 plugin natively with Apple languages and tools.
I may be mistaken, but I believe the app store description of D1 is transparent and says that only one AUv3 instance will work at a time? The codebases for those old apps (D1/FM) are almost 4 years old. They are based on the old FM Player code, which was before AUv3. i.e. It's not plug & play to upgrade, it's a big hairy re-write. It's been taking months to re-write them. But, we are working on it.
Is Audiokit trendy? 😂 I'm certainly not. Those folks ya'll see using our apps are mostly people who find and use our apps on their own. We're surprised to see the videos like anyone else. People like Henny tha Bizness, Bosko, and others pay for and buy their own apps. Lots of the AudioKit buzz may be from people seeing musicians like Herbie Hancock use them or various producers, then their followers pick up on it. But, we're surprised and humbled to see those folks using them. And other developers who have AudioKit code secretly buried their apps spread the word as well. And, I definitely like to promote the whole iOS ecosystem when people reach out to me. The iOS developer community is circular and mutually supportive.
Re: Synth One filter envelope – F Preve uses Synth One as an example of its filter envelope type in his upcoming free book on learning Synthesis, in which he talks about various filter envelope implementations. (I don't believe he used the term "wrong" when describing Synth One's filter envelope. It's a lesser used implementation, and can be thought of as another tool in your musical toolbox. But, everyone's 'wrong' and 'right' is different when it comes to iOS Synths 😂). That being said, there is already an option for a more "traditional" analog filter envelope being developed now. And, will be available as an option to the general public soon. D1 uses a per-voice harmonic filter envelope. It's also something that is non-standard and completely different from Synth One's filter envelope implementation. But, might be the "special sauce" to why people some people like D1's sound.
Hope all of you have a good Sunday. And, if our little apps (written by amateurs like me, but, I'm getting better) caused you too much grief in your life, DM me up for a promo code when one of our future apps comes out and I'll hook you up.
My volunteer work with AudioKit is to make music instruments and help make musicians happy. And, hopefully our future work will make you all a little happier.
Love it! Patiently waiting for the rewrites and looking forward to the the rest of the limited series. Retro Piano and Bass 808 are my go tos atm.
I felt the D1 was too cpu heavy and crackles for me, I love the sound though!
You know how they have the 2 digital audio kit synths, one more of a rom one and the other more a dx7... Which one is least cpu intensive? I loved the tones butI just auv3 issues with cpu overload. Cheers.
i have an ipad pro 2018 and ive had issues with the D1 and the fm synth as auv3 in aum since day one. even just one instance of one crashes quite often. which i now understand is just because they are a few years old. dont get me wrong, they are BEAUTIFUL synths imo, but they’re best to use then to print the audio then just use the loop. at least in aum, havent extensively tried it in any other daw.
im excited for them to be updated with new code though, i think they sound really good, just havent gotten much use out of them
What host are you getting the crashes in? I use Digital D1 pretty frequently on an iPad 2018 in AUM and it is pretty reliable for me. In most sessions, I don't have any problems though I have had occasional crashes.
Are you just playing it with a keyboard or are you looping it with a sequencer such as atom? I ask because I stopped using it because with atom, the first 1-2 times it loops, it drops notes. Same in cubasis. Seems to work better in BM3 but there are other issues that prevent me from using BM3.
I often use it with Poly 2. I haven't had any issues with sending notes from other sequencers such as Atom or Photon or Xequence. I also have no issues running two D1s at once.
I am using a buffer of 256?
I am still runing iOS 12.3.1
i use AUM as well and i constantly have crashes. i am on ios 13 and i either use it with fugue or atom. so maybe one or both of those might be an issue? im not too sure. but yeah it will crash like every 10 minutes or so. and when i reload it, it forgets the preset i was on so i’ll have to scroll through and try to remember which preset i was using.
like i said though, i love the synth. it’s just a little unreliable for me. havent tried it in many other daws though because ive been obsessed with aum since i got it.
I just used D1 vertical pad in a track, no problem. I did have to switch to it because another preset glitched a few times. It’s a beautiful sounding instrument, but like a difficult girlfriend. Keep at it @analog_matt, you guys give a lot more than you get.
+1
So just as a reference, im using a 5 th gen iPad that's pretty old. It runs almost any synth app that isn't a known cpu maniac or a hyper midi session. So perhaps I expect too much but the normal AudioKit synth runs perfect so I can roll with that. I would think an iPad Pro would run like 10 midi tracks of d1 no?
Will I be burning my AudioKit t-shirt anytime soon? No.
@analog_matt
Weird how older synths by other developers work fine, but Audiokit can claim non platinum uber doober code from olden times as an excuse for anything.
Stand up and say "Hey look, we haven't quite got this stuff anywhere near usable yet, but we are trying and it is open source, support is if you can"
Are you trendy, well depends what you call trendy, if trendy is a lot of people talking about you, then yes you are trendy, unfortunately nearly everything I read or hear is very very bad, but I actually prefer to make my own mind up, so I try them and oh dear, they are very very bad, and from what I have seen (Obviously all just personal opinion) so is your social presence.
Do I want a promo code, no thanks.
"Just keep telling a community that you are good for it, then find as many trendies as you can to hype you, job done."
To which you pretty much replied
Remind the community that you are good for it, then namedrop as many trendies as you can to hype yourself, job done.
Does anybody have anything against you or Audiokit, of course not, just be honest and get rid of all this platinum code crap.
Nah, I have come to the conclusion that this guy is just mad at the world seeing his last 10 or so posts. It'll be alright man. Life gets better if you allow it to.
Any who, outside of D1 and FM Player, which are still phenomenal sounding synths, I have had little issue with their other products. Outside of major company that have been doing this for a very long time, most all music apps have issues upon release. It's really how the dev handles it that shows their value.
Have to also remember that every synth is less than $5. I got d1 and fm player for cheap and they sound better than synths I've paid $10+ for.
I'm sure I'll be berated with whatever indignant conclusions you can come up with. Have a great day! 😘🤣
Would you feel better if AUv3 platinum was called AUv3 code version 2 ?
Audiokit is a good library. I’m using it at the moment to develop an app, which will be of no interest to anyone here but it has helped me a lot. The Audiokit library actually started as a CSound API and then was completely rewritten to go native. It’s complex and there are a lot of developers working on. With Apple seemingly providing little help with their API’s Matt and the team are doing a great job with standardising and working with the main developers to provide AUv3 examples. It can only get better from here.
The trolls are pretty easy to spot once you recognise them em eh?
Have a good day yourself!
@TheVimFuego 😂🤣😂🤣 catching on!
I'm mad at the world because i state facts, OK, enjoy your perfect world
Would i prefer it called XYZ, Audiokit is a good framework, I don't care what it is called, I care that the naming is used as some kind of selling point, Audiokit is not a good framework for end users, maybe so for you, every Audiokit plugin is full of issues.
I'm a troll, oh look, not capable of making a point, call names, enjoy.
@Turntablist i'm totally on your side here, less "funny videos" and other marketing activities and more time/energy invested to quality check of products will be definitely benefitial for AK.
I really don’t understand this criticism of the AudioKit team. Wtf? They give away AKSynthOne, RetroPiano, FMplayer now $1.99, 808 was a few bucks and more to come. Do you think these guys are in it for the money?
And there is actually criticism for a funny video?? Can’t these folks even have a little fun without some people, who contribute nothing to the iOS community, putting them down?
I usually take critiques of the platform, sampling, etc, in stride. No one is actually getting hurt and it can be good fun to parry back and forth about it. But to deride devs who do their best to promote iOS, give their apps and code free to the world, and demonstrate goodheartedness over and over... well, that is truly disheartening.
So let me say it simply... to the cynics, defeatists, humorless, and self entitled amongst us who feel they can deride decent and generous efforts for the community with self centered self righteousness and hollow ringing indignation.... (censored).
There... now I’ve not said it,
