AUv3 App, able to host other AUv3’s in Standalone mode (Thesys does)
@KING said:
It may not be for others, but this is news to me!
I don’t read every thread, so it may have been mentioned 100+ times.
... I thought Drambo was going to be the first to do this, but Thesys (witch is an AUv3) is caperble of hosting AU’s in its standalone form..
Things click when they click - don’t really use Thesys so there’s that.
However!
It’s very nice to know!
King
I wonder if there are any more apps that do this..
Comments
MidiSteps does too... It is supposed to go Auv3 ... mentioned about 1 year ago...
I didn't know that Thesys could do that, but I know that VADrumSM can do that too 😊
Thanks for the reminder!
Loading Drambo inside Thesys is a great idea 😃
Well well well, where have I been.. haha
King
Yeah.. that's no secret. Any standalone app can host AUv3 without too much hassle (all my standalone apps are mini-hosts which host the actual AUv3 and manage the things that the plugin can't, like importing and exporting patches etc.).
AUv3 hosting other AUv3 is currently impossible
Drambo inside Drambo?
King
Cool..
I remember you speaking about your apps being “mini hosts”.
First I’m witnessing it thought..
King
Noooo... you've used Cubasis or Nanostudio or BM3 or any other host, right? All standalone apps which host plugins. This is no different from what those apps do..
apeMatrix hosts its own AUv3 plugins.
Yeah but those are not also AUv3's themselves..
They are just hosts, this is dual.
King
Jesus.... That Thesys performance mode captured...
But neither is the standalone app of Thesys. That's the trick: the standalone app is simply a minimal container which hosts the AUv3 that comes packaged with the app. But it can easily also host any other AUv3 that's present on the system using the same loader.
Moebius Lab has eight AUv3 slots.
Arh, I totally get you!
My point is that I have never seen one app do both before now.
(For me) It's the first app that I can use as a host and a plugin..
King
another classic oldie with AU hosting, definitely worth checking out = Zmors modular. You can use the step sequencers and modulation modules to modulate two selected parameters of each hosted plugin.
Yep I have both Zmors Modular and Moebius, but don’t see them in my AUv3 lists inside AUM.
Hehe
King
OK. So is there any benefit to using Thesys this way over routing it to a sound source like sEGments in AUM etc?
Let me put this another way.
When I downloaded Thesys, I only downloaded 1 single app.
That single app can Host AUv3's.
It can also be used as an AUv3, within some other Host.
I don't have any other apps that can currently do that.
King
Zmors modular isn’t AUV3 itself but it hosts AUV3 plugins in standalone.
Thats my point: "Zmors modular isn’t AUV3".
Thesys, is-is.
King
Interesting!
It's all new-news (and good news) to me.. and some other folks, I guess..

I think you may be getting a little over-excited about this. As @brambos explained, you downloaded a single package consisting of a stand-alone container app and an AUv3 module. When you use the AUv3 in another host, you're not using the container "app", just the associated AUv3. AUv3s are not like normal integrated apps, they're separate fragments wrapped in a package. For example, Burns' Spectrum "app" package actually contains 3 (or 4) separate AUv3s.
Yes! I Love excitement!
My choice!
I Understand The Ting! uncle
I'm Happy!
Cheers

But to be honest (for me) it's not about how it works, it's about, it works!
... I'm going to get some more excitement and fun and bliss..

King
.....I don’t understand.
It’s a normal container for a Auv3, like @brambos explained.
Really..
Yes yes yes, hadn't seen it before.. simple!
Does anybody understand that..
There is a saying, "you learn some new every day" this was mine.
Learning that I can use the app in this way.
So I look forward to Drambo hosting AUv3!
King
I hear ya, King lol
I got excited because I thought Sugar Bytes had built in more integration with a hosted AU than you can get just by pointing it at an AU sound source in another host.
Cheers hehe
I make my own joy! Sometimes the simplest of things can bring you happiness.
