Geoshred, how do I get the pitch bend to snap back to zero when I release the note?

Hey there! I'm working in ableton live on a macbook pro and I'm having very good results using geoshred control on my ipad to control synths with midi. I'm using it primarily for glides on bass sounds. It works very well BUT when I release a note, the pitch wheel in soft synths like serum and tal-u-no-lx doesn't snap back to zero. This creates a bad artifact when I press a new note because it's first then that the pitch wheel snaps back to it's original default position. Unless you end up on the same note you started with obviously.

There has to be a very very easy solution for this, but I just can't seem to figure it out. Any awesome nerds out there that share their 2 cents? I would really appreciate it.

Thx!

Hi @Jadestar - i just verified using GeoShred and a Midi monitor:

When one bends a note in Geoshred, the pitchbend is send continuously util you release the note, after the Note-Off there is no pitchbend midi event to turn back the note.
When the next note is pressed, GeoShred sends a centered pitchbend before sending the Note-On.

    .

I implemented a script in Mozaic that noticed when there was un-centred pitchbend after the release of the last note of each of the MPE channels. And then after a user defined time (using a timer event) issued a pitch-bend center command. This action was canceled when a new note-on for that channel arrived during the wait or if the pitch-bend was re-centered.

When checked with a midi debugger, the scipt works flawless.

BUT testing with TAL-U-NO-LX in MPE mode revealed that the synth does not react to the scripts pitch-bend re-center action.
New notes still might get the bend in the beginning if played on the same Geoshed string, even though the pitch-bend for that channel was reset half a second ago. The script didn‘t help :/

Perhaps its even defined in the MPE standard not to react to pitch-bend if the channel is not claimed by a note - i don‘t know.

  • Thank you for your reply _ki! Yeah, I think we're observing the same phenomenon. But even MPE is a no go in ableton live. I'm working around it setting soft synths to a pitch bend range at 24 semitones and matching the same range in geoshred. It's absolutely ridiculous that Live still aren't able to implement MPE at this point, but that's a different issue I guess. Either I'll just contact support of moforte or try to find a hack through max for live. It's almost hard to grasp though that geoshred doesn't have such basic features..
