IOS Bank Change and Program Change
Hi All
I am new to the forum and also to IOS apps. So much capability available!
Having invested in KORG Module and Korg IM1 along with using Audio Kit FM Player and AUM, I am trying to create a live performance environment so I can auto change selected presets in my apps.
However, I am really struggling to get any information on the change codes for the above apps.
I have bought Micro Designer Pro 2 so I have an environment, which I hope I can use as the central performance area. I have managed to link AUM and create some big MUTE buttons and volume sliders that all work well. Yet I still can’t link to the Korg or Audio kit apps to change banks/presets etc.
Can any of you IOS experts help or provide some clues on the secrets for connection please?
Many Thanks
Deano

I have bought Micro Designer Pro 2
To be precise, Micro DP2, or Midi DP2?
Apologises yes, MIDI Designer Pro 2 :-)
iM1 responds to Midi Bank Select and Program Change. Bank Select chooses the card, and Program Change chooses the patch within the card. Cards are numbered starting at zero on the top left. So, to select preset 4-MalletBell on card 2-Memory, you would set up a button in MD-Pro2 as follows:
You could then set up other buttons, substituting the Bank # for LSB and the two numbers for MIDI Off-On for the preset number. The two numbers for MIDI Off-On should always be the same 3 → 3, 20 → 20, etc.
FM Player 2 (I assume you meant FM2, not FM1) is similar except instead of using LSB, it uses MSB. so the third line above would be (Channel 1, MSB=2, LSB=0). This applies to the FM Player 2 IAA/Standalone version. The AUv3 version doesn't appear to respond to program change.
You'll need background audio enabled in both iM1 and FM Player 2, or they won't be able to respond to MIDI messages if they're in the background. When you have background audio enabled, you need to force-quit the apps when you're not using them or they will suck your battery dry.
Fortunately, you chose two apps that both respond to program change. Not all do. In those cases, if they're AUv3 apps then you can use AUM's midi-learn functionality to select between up to 128 presets. If you want to use the AUv3 version of FM Player 2, you'll need to use this method.
I hope that helps.
Hi Wim
That is so kind of you - a lot of info that I can get stuck into.
Hope you won’t mind if I ping you again at some stage
Cheers
Deano
Sure, no problem.
Hi Wim
It works !! Brilliant
Any other tips and tricks would be welcome
#1 piece of advice:
Never eat anything bigger than your head.
oh ... and Midi Designer Pro2 can run in "Popover" mode so that it can float over iM1, FMP2, AUM, etc. That can be handy for testing things out.
If you're not familiar with popover and split view: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207582
Didn’t know about pop over - I’ll check it out now. As you say, it’s a pain flick back and forth
Hi Wim
With my new found knowledge, I have got Korg Module Set Lists and Poison all accepting bank and preset changes too.
So I can now start thinking about a good performance layout in Midi Design Pro
Hours of fun
That's great to hear! Often people give up before getting anywhere with this kind of stuff.
👍🏼
Hi Wim
Is there any technical reason why some apps use MSB and others LSB? Why not a standard protocol?
