my new iPad rig with entry level Eurorack and MPC ONE for under 2000 Eur
my goal was it to build a rig centered around iPad/Aum, a good controller and/or daw in a box and my first eurorack synth, without spending a fortune. So after a few years with Octatrack this time i chose the MPC one (which since the software 2.8 is GREAT) and as “beginner friendly” eurorack synths i went for the relatively cheap system-1m (digital an flexible with it’s plug-outs), the Model D because i love the moog sound and the DFAM for some glitchy drone/ambient drums
The most important thing for me was to have a rig which i can move around the house with no effort. So i modified the Behringer Eurorack case a bit, made some holes, mounted an NI komplete audio interface on it’s side (cheaper than a eurorack audiointerface and it has DC coupled outs) and i was able to put the case’s own Power supply inside the case, as well as a usb charger for the ipad, a usb hub for the ipad, the power supply for the MPC ONE and all the audio/power/cv/usb/midi cabling So basically the whole system has just one power-cord .
SO: power on, load MPC template, load AUM template and i’m ready to go
Comments
I did not know the Komplete Audio had DC coupled outs, nice!
Looks like a fun rig.
Wonderful looking set-up! 2000 euros not including the iPad and the seaboard I assume?
yes it has them, but i have to admit: i did. not try it yet - i don‘t even know if it‘s working inside mirack (is mirack able to receive external CV ?)
It was not so important to me, as the MPC has CV outs - just wanted to be prepared for the future with the right interface (cabling also already done)
if someone should know it: can i expand the inputs/outputs of the Komplete audio 6 mk2 via SPDIF with some eurorack module or something else and will they be recognized by the ipad ?
i forgot to mention that i got almost everything 2nd hand. So the seaboard is included, the ipad is not.
In my life i always buy everything new - from clothing to furniture. But in my opinion, when GAS is kicking in, the best thing you can do, is to buy used gear. A LOT cheaper and very often barely used. I got the Model D and the system-1m for 450 from some guy over here.
