Fabfilter bundle owners, a question for you

Before I decide on the whole bundle, how many of you actually use ALL the apps on a regular basis? I only use AUM to record my music. How is the cpu usage in AUM with all these apps running and is it possible to run multiple instances of fabfilters without problems? I’m thinking I want pro Q3 for sure, and if I want to get the magicdeatheye stereo do I need the 2 fabfilter compressors? In your opinion, do other less expensive apps cover the grounds of the lesser used fabfilter apps just fine? Thanks

  • C2, Q3, L and MB are must

Q3 L2 C2. Anything can be done in C2+Q3+L2 combo ... buuut For the price just get the bundle. l do not regret it. its such a safe buy future proof. Now my wallet is dead, but yolo.

CPU usage is better than you think. I get better cpu usage on FF than TB.
even more so if you stay away from oversampling x16 or x32

I use MB very little, mostly out of experimentation, and have no use for DS really since I stopped singing. The rest I use for every project and I’ve thrown all the cheaper substitutes away (though I also use the MagicDeathEye)

I would say the answer is if you have to ask how much others are using them, then you aren’t quite sure what you need so your answer depends on how serious you are/how much you are willing to spend for apps that are tools moreso than toys. At the same time, buying these will assure you you won’t truly need any of the others and you won’t ever have to worry if you need something “better”.

  • Q, C, R and L are my go-tos. Nothing else will do, I’ve learned.

Maybe watch the videos and demo on desktop if you can? 2 weeks to decide...

    yep needs no promotion rly..
anyway MB i dont rly know about this one.. (got it as part of bundle) imean a mix of q3 and L2? or did i miss smth? To me i can do all that in q3 with dynamic bands already

  • Pro-MB is excellent on drum loops, because you can compress the kick and the snare differently.

Pro-C2 is a very versatile compressor and it comes with several algorithms (clean, opto, bus, vocal etc). It also has the best UI of any compressor so it’s really easy to see exactly what’s happening to the signal.

Pro-R is really versatile and has a level of control that is in a league of its own. It sounds amazing as well.

Pro-G is surprisingly useful, for those times when you need a gate or expander. It can side chain too for those gated synth effects.

    Pro-Q3 needs no introduction.

And finally Pro-DS is really useful for cleaning up vocals, if that’s a need you ever have.

I can honestly say that I use all of them and rely on them.

  • The EQ, the reverb, and the limiter are my most used fabfilter plugs

  • If you're working on something "special" - willing to spend a lot of time on specific sounds and nuances - then Fab Filter anythings are a delight to use ... just superb design ... never get tired of them.

Not compulsory ... there are lots of superb apps and different sets of ears - but I do a lot of "orchestral" stuff and will - on occasion - spend an hour polishing the tympani's timbre and reverb (as if anyone actually hears that!) ... but for sheer ease of use and depth of control the Fab Filter apps are in a class alone.

Worth grabbing Saturn 2 just to get an idea of what they can do .... betcha get the whole kit and kaboodle eventually.

@richardyot Sir, we need all the info we can get about pro MB , still cant see the diff using q3 plus l2

  • Per Fabfilters:

    About FabFilter Pro-MB

Multiband compression and expansion are very powerful and useful tools, but many people find the concept quite difficult to grasp, or don't know how and when to use it. With FabFilter Pro-MB, multiband dynamics processing becomes intuitive yet powerful at the same time.

The traditional approach to multiband processing is to simply split the whole incoming signal into bands using a set of crossovers. In most cases however, this is overly complicated as you're often only interested in working with a particular frequency range. Instead, we have chosen to approach this from the user's perspective: think bands, not crossovers. You're working on some audio and want to adjust a certain frequency range... so just create a band at that frequency range and start working! The interface clearly reflects that the rest of the spectrum stays untouched.

Next, we have also pushed the limits to achieve the best possible sound. We've gone through a lot of research and developed our own unique Dynamic Phase processing mode. It has virtually the same frequency response as traditional multiband processing, but features zero latency operation, no pre-ringing effects, and only introduces phase changes when actually changing the gain. This mode really makes Pro-MB stand apart! Of course, we have also included an excellent Linear Phase mode and a traditional Minimum Phase mode.

As you've come to expect from FabFilter, Pro-MB has a highly intelligent and intuitive interface, making it easy to create, organize and adjust bands that are freely placed in the frequency spectrum. With its well-thought-out display, designed to achieve an optimal workflow, FabFilter Pro-MB is an absolute time-saver and a joy to use.

    Key features

    • Up to six processing bands, freely placed anywhere in the spectrum
    • Unique Dynamic Phase processing mode plus excellent Linear Phase and traditional Minimum Phase modes
    • Any form of dynamics processing, from highly transparent compression, limiting and expansion to pumping upward compression and punchy gating
    • Fully customizable per band: lookahead (up to 20 ms), variable knee, variable stereo linking with mid-only or side-only processing, band/free side-chain triggering (external or internal), variable slopes between 6 dB/oct and 48 dB/oct (in Dynamic and Linear Phase mode)
    • Intelligent, highly program- and frequency-dependent attack and release curves
    • Full Screen mode: with just the click of a button, Pro-MB instantly fills the whole screen, making super-precise adjustments easy and fast
    • Choose between normal or large interface sizes
    • Unique interactive multiband display, designed for an optimal workflow
    • Global dry/wet mix from 0% to 200%
    • High-quality audio processing algorithms with 64-bit internal processing where needed
    • Up to four times oversampling
    • Accurate and smooth, customizable real-time frequency analyzer with pre-processing, post-processing and SC options, freeze, tilt, speed and resolution settings, and horizontal spectrum zoom
    • Precise output metering
  • So you’re isolating a band or frequency and working exclusively on it. Without affecting the rest of the audio signal. Very powerful.

  • I was in the camp that by the time I got the 3 or so I really wanted, it wasn’t much more to just get the whole bundle. Although there are a couple I rarely use, no regrets.

They are just top of the line amazing plugins. Sound great, and also importantly they are fun to use.

They do cover a lot of ground, but I’ve given up on telling myself “I’ll never need another ___ again because all my bases are covered now.” Other people must have better self discipline than I do haha, but lots of cheap-ish apps are all part of the fun of iOS music imo 😆

cool thnx @Lil_Stu07 As I suspected then, pro MB is the shortcut, timesaver on multiband setups, still im pretty sure on q3 can do this with dynamic bands. And on top of that q3 got more bands.. MB seems to be a more “one knob approach “
wich is fine, a simplified q3

    Edit: wrong thread

  • Same question here. I have the reverb and the EQ on my list but at that point I might just as well jump at the bundle, even though I still do not understand properly how I could make use of all the other plugins. I have taken a look at the excellent videos FabFilter releases on YT and they are really helpful, I learn a lot. This alone, to me, is worth the higher price (though cheap in comparison to desktop). And since I read on the FabFiter forums that they seem to be working on universal AUv3 (that's my interpretation of "we hear you" after the question came up if there will be iPhone versions), this will be an excellent investment.

  • I got the bundle when it came out. Honestly the effect I use the most is Pro MB. Fab Filter gives my stuff a very polished sound.

  • i bought the creative bundle and i‘m a bit disappointed by the new interface.i had the previous versions of all three in auria and there was a switch to show/hide the modulation section.Am i overlooking something or is there really no way to hide the modulation anymore?Makes it only usable in fullscreen mode with mod engaged and if you have only one or two mods going on,there is a lot of wasted space left/right.The overall design is more modern but the usability in this regard i liked the old ones more.Looks a bit…weird…overall, dunno…

To hide the modulation section just tap the two arrows beside the pulse sign where you add a new modulation

  • Thanks,i‘ve seen that though. But you still can‘t hide all the parameter below i.e. this lonely „ducking“ slider.I really don‘t like that to be honest.

I use the creative plugins the most: Volcano and Timeless, but often use the Pro C and L. Still exploring them all!

I see an"x" which can close the Ducking gui element.
    Does that help?

That "x" would remove the mod source though, the modulation section is hidden completely with the "«" icon only if all the mod sources are non-interactive (i.e. if you don't have sliders or XY controllers)

    Ditto.

  • If you get only a single bundle, get this one. That's pretty much all effects you'll ever need in the highest quality possible. Personally I almost always reach for FabFilter plugins first currently. FabFilter, MixBox and Bleass for more creative things are the ones that get use from me.

  • If you’ve overspent this weekend, Fabfilter usually discounts again from roughly a week before Xmas until Jan 1st.

As @richardyot has pointed out, even the utility processors such as Pro-G can be used more creatively. And Pro-DS, can be used to tame synth timbres that become harsh in the upper registers as well as sibilant vocals.

Whilst Pro-R isn't the best algorithmic reverb money can buy, it's the best algorithmic reverb on iOS.

So all things considered, purchasing the Fabfilter AUv3's individually doesn't make much sense when the bundle is priced so keenly.

  • Another creative use case for Pro-DS is to feed it with white noise for ‘radio static noises’.
Threshold to minimum, adjust depth for the harshness and adjust the frequency response to taste.
