Ruismaker with boppad with aum

Hi everyone
I am trying to use ruismaker with boppad with aum midi control. I was able to use midi learn to map the boppad to the different instrument channels but they’re not triggering the sound. After I mapped them I can’t trigger the sounds from the ruismaker interface. Any idea how to make it work?

  • You’ve got the wrong idea about the channel select midi learn. What that does is set the active channel for setting other parameters. That doesn’t trigger notes.

Ruismaker’s pads are triggered by particular notes - the “black keys” starting from C#3 (or another octave up or down depending on your hardware’s octave numbering scheme). C#, D#, F#, etc.

You either need to configure the bop pad to send those notes, or put a program such as mfxConvert between the bop pad input and Ruismaker to remap the notes.

Ruismaker also has an option to engage GM Keymap, to use more conventional General Midi drum map notes. If the Bop Pad outputs GM notes, that might work for you, but you might also have some notes not triggering, or triggering the wrong sounds.

The Ruismaker Manual is well worth taking a look at.

Can you tell that to my wife and kids please. 😂

  • Thanks WIM, I kind a hope there was a way around setting the boppad to the ruismaker native midi because it has only pc midi editing. Will try mfx

  • Bop Pad and iPad is a very nice combination. There‘s a web editor for Bop Pad, which works with web midi. Unfortunately web midi is still not supported in Safari. I use an old Android phone just for this (and for navigation on my Bike). Apple, please listen and support web midi in iOS!
Mozaic (also from Brambos, the Ruismaker guy) is very helpful in AUM. I work on a kind of configuration tool for Bop Pad. I’ll share this hopefully soon.
We need an MPE Midi Editor for iPad. Bitwig does this very nice on Mac and PC, but still no Midi note editor or sequencer which supports MPE on iPad. ☹️

I think you'll find mfxConvert really helpful since I'm sure you'll want to use the bop pad with other apps that have yet still more mappings. Once you set up your set of conversions, you just save it as a preset for that app, for instant recall later.

The interface of mfxConvert threw me at first. It seemed like you could only map one note. But, each note or midi message you "learn" has it's own mapping. You can see and change to the different mappings from the drop-down next to the "TO" label. It's a pain because they're listed in hexadecimal.

Despite the somewhat inconvenient interface, mfxConvert is super useful.

Looking forward to the Mozaic project for the BP!

  • Boppad configurations will be great, thanks
