AUM needs this little feature...

Or maybe it has it, and I haven't found it.

I would like a 'channel' to remember the midi input when I change it's input instrument. If I'm searching for a sound, and trying different synths, I need to reconnect my keyboard input with every change.

This seems so silly that I suspect I've missed something. But have I?

Also, a favorites category for AuV3s

  • +1 on both of those. Also a faster way to connect external midi without having to go through so many taps in the menu section. And a search function when looking for exposed parameters by name.

Yeah it would be useful, apeMatrix and Audiobus does this. There could be a "swap" option added, because at the moment when you remove an instrument it removes it's node from the midi matrix, which does make sense.

...in fact I'm pretty sure this has been requested and most probably is on his list :)

  • Yeah, ape has it, I can't fathom why AUM still doesn't have this. I love AUM but in that area it is sorely lacking.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • ok so I'm not the only one! I was hoping I'd just missed some setting somewhere though.

But I've since thought of 2 more minor annoyances:

1/ Move plug ins between channels. My usual usage case for this is starting to mess around with one instrument, add a reverb or delay, add some more instruments and realise I should have put those effects on a send right from the start. Moving them would be good!

2/ I just went to make use of the marker feature recently. I was pretty surprised to find all the controls were inactive while the maker window was open. I'd imagine keeping that window open to scoot between tracks, especially for a live situation, but having to close it before you can do anything is counter intuitive to me. Also, the button to close it is small and not easy to activate reliably, again especially for live situations.

Maybe I've missed something on these 2 points, after all it took me ages to find out I could swap positions of effects within the same channel.

But all this is against the background that it's a great app, so I don't want to just whinge pathetically here.

  • A mixer faders view would be great too.

  • All I want in Aum is a proper landscape mode for iPhone! Still love Aum tho 💗

Definitely. I've emailed Jonatan about this before, that channels need the option to retain their settings e.g. MIDI inputs, Note Range etc as it's a bit annoying to keep having to reset them constantly when changing instruments. No reply so far.

AUM is fine, Don’t auto route midi stuff plz, leave it as is..only thing i miss is gui scale setting for ipads a.k.a More faders, not just bigger faders...

btw use apematrix if u need it? whats the idea of Aum doing it all coming from?
relax and use AB ape with Aum. tools are here

ApeMatrix needs more outputs. Main, A and B just don’t cut it.

Also +1 on app “swap” in AUM.

yeah the gui def need a overview or smth to get the scrolling madness to stop

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Yes, Blue Mangoo have a little mixer AU, right? That could maybe do the job but an in-app simultaneous view of all the sliders in AUM would be killer.

  • +1 on this as well!!

i would also love an ability to save track setups/presets. If i have a midi track that i use in a majority of productions like say rozeta bassline>midi echo>rozeta scaler>Midi Chance, it would be so helpful to just select a track preset and load all at once.

same with instrument / fx tracks. I could load up drambo, with my pro q, pro c and blackhole settings all in one swipe.

tbh you can use Audiobus statesaving for all this.. but yeah ..
And please when saving project-include Aum presets of AUv3 in the save, also the audioclips if any used.. uknow one fat zip with it all

You can import tracks from other saved sessions. I just save a session or two with commonly used setups and give them a name that helps them sort at the top of the files list alphabetically (I put a "!" in front of the name). Then when adding a track I just select Import, and make sure there are checkmarks next to the channels I want.

The only downside (and this is kind of big) is MIDI routing isn't preserved. :|

  • @wim when I read @shinyisshiny 's comment, I was gonna say: import! But Iove your idea of putting a ! In front. There should be an ability to search here by name in fact. Also, bummer about the midi routing not being preserved, another good point. I love your attention to detail.

+1 for a search box in the files selector! B)

I use this all the time in Audiobus and also in AUM to find apps. I find it so much quicker just to swipe down, and type a couple of letters than to scroll through a bunch of lists. In Audiobus I just put "" in front of any template names. Maximum two characters and the session is there. In AUM, "" sorts between numbers and letters, so doesn't work as well as "!". (The programmer in me cringes at using a character like "!" in a file name but it does the job.)

  • @wim wow! i had no idea. thanks for this info!

  • I need better midi like this

I do something similar but created a /_tpl folder and stuff everything in there. The only bit that's missing for me is the ability to export any given channel within a loaded session.

Duplicate the original channel with all the effects, which will copy all the effects settings. Remove the instrument and route your busses.

  • edited July 2020

@audiblevideo : +1 to that suggestion, yup, glad to see someone else does this :).

I use duplicate channel all the time, then just re route or take out what isn’t needed. As I never make a track the same way twice, this ‘on the fly’ method beats rigid FX preset chains for channels hands down. And of course there is the import channel option already there if you need it, which, with @wim ’s suggestion of using ! to group template set ups at the top of your files covers off setup for people who do have fave channel set ups...

I do agree with him though that it would be very helpful to be able to type-search in the AUM file select box, if it just duplicated the ‘drag down to reveal search & order behaviours’ offered inside AudioShare that would be fine...

Would be great to have a mini faders overview Option though, instead of scrolling. If AUM offered a togglable zoom view similar to that which you get when you rearrange the channel order, which let you interact with faders and pans, that’d be great...

And the one I keep returning to - despite the fact @j_liljedahl has clearly stated on more than one occasion that he has no intention of doing this, as ‘AUM is not a DAW’ - :) - a way of automating AUM‘S own faders and pots in a precise, replicable fashion (like a Cubasis style draw your own motion timeline, maybe?). I can use Art Kearns’ MIDILFOs to do semi automated mixes of these already, of course, but it would be great to be able to record a full mix of a piece with soloing, muting, fading, panning and File Player triggering all recordable inside AUM, using my Novation Launchcontrol XL to control it, which I could then go in and iteratively tweak and edit. That would truly be a DAWless DAW...

    Well, I can dream, can’t I?

  • Been thinking it might be tres AUM if there was a visual representation of each bookmark, next to the channel output maybe, which a user could double tap. Doing so would fold all tracks from that one up until the next bookmark. No zooming, no separate views, no configuring... nothing but an icon that can be used to fold a set of tracks. That set is determined by the next bookmark (to the right) and nothing else.

  • lots of handy hints here :)

  • I would suggest a Swap feature. Instead of eject and then reconnecting in matrix.

  • Nested or grouped tracks would be so useful
