I’m more impressed by what Drambo can do than what I’ve done with it which is mainly get overwhelmed but I’m always impressed by what echoopera is creating with it and need to spend more time creating a workflow.
Klevgrand seems hit and miss but I would definitely buy REAMP again as its great at simulating analog saturation. FabFilter Saturn is good too but REAMP has more character and they both work together well.

Cheers man, saved me from submitting another entry to this thread 😀

  • My only disappointment is with myself for constantly buying apps that I have no clue how to use or the time/intelligence to learn.

That said, I have had fun being completely bewildered in different drummer or Sunvox, in a “I wonder what this button does?“ presses button....” oh it does that, I wonder what that is?” sort of way.

  • Crushstation. Not the apps fault but I purchased it and then realised I could get far better distortion with the nembrini psa100 jr which I already had and was free! !

It’s been a while since I last checked and I may not have even gone down the iTunes route. I have a new laptop now so I’ll check on iTunes to see if it’s there. I also have lots of older devices so compatibility shouldn’t be a problem.

Sorry. Don't check in iTunes on the laptop... check in the App Store app on the IOS device.
Your account details of purchases are disclosed there.

I'd just like to mention that the App Store Purchased list does NOT include all prior purchases. I have an app (Epic Synth by J P Martineau) on both my iPads, but it is not in the Purchased list, nor in the App Store. The app still works fine on both devices, with current iOS versions. There must be some reason that causes Apple to completely remove an app, possibly non-payment of developer fee.

Edit: All purchased using the same Apple ID, the only one I've ever had. So no reason for it to disappear from my end.

Yes, that does cause it to be removed, you are correct.

Not strictly true. There is a way to use one iPad with AB3, loopback through an interface and headphones to be able to multitrack SWAM sounds from Noise in, say, Cubasis. I believe the method is in the Wiki. I’ll grab a link...

    Here you go.

  • Currently? ...Mozaic.

So much potential, wasted because of shortcomings in UI functionality...

Good point about Noise, I think I remember someone mentioning this hack before.

What would you like to see added / changed regarding Mozaic. I should in theory be hugely into Mozaic as I am really enjoying learning more about using midi, but I found that I prefer using dedicated apps like the stuff done by Art Kerns and Tony Saunders, etc. Part of it is that I find the patch descriptions on Patchstorage just quite hard work to read through. I'd like to see the talented people doing Mozaic scripts to spend a bit of time making their descriptions a bit less technical sounding. It's great in theory that the people who enjoy coding are making stuff for the non-coders. But a little intro every time explaining in very clear language what can be accomplished with the patch would be good. I haven't even been there in maybe a month or two, maybe this description is unfair, but that's the impression I was often left with when I went there. I also get just ten times more joy looking at, say the midiGATEs interface than I do looking at Mozaic. It's largely an aesthetic thing.

  • All Igor Vasiliev apps, like Soundscaper or Synthscaper. The learning curve on the ui and all options is too steep for me. These apps need a starter’s ui and a switch to go deeper into advanced mode or something. As they are these apps can not hold my attention for more than ten seconds. I almost never return any app that I buy, except for these.

  • I would love to be doing stuff with Mozaic that is more intuitive to use, but that would involve having more flexibility in visual feedback. Without a sensible way to build labels on the fly to give that visual feedback, Mozaic apps will remain opaque and non-intuitive. If @brambos ever changes his mind and supports assignment and reading of string variables, I’ll look at it again, but for now, I’m done with sharing scripts, it’s not worth the hassle of writing ones that don’t need heaps of user support/tutorials, etc.

a lot of my disappointments come from lack of syncing in aum. for instance, glitchcore. i wish that it would stop and start with aum but it continues to run even when i pause aum. which could work for some but it makes it hard because everytime you pause then play in aum, it changes parts that are being sliced.

I use Glitchcore in AUM alongside Enso, get something good going, record it in Enso, clear the Glitchcore buffer and then good to go again. Your Enso loop will then start/stop with AUM, fairly swift to set up and run with.

On SWAM in Roli Noise, I would mostly concur with what everyone's said about Noise being prohibitively walled in, but I just had an epiphany using it via IDAM to my Mac desktop. Running Noise standalone with the SWAM instruments and a seaboard block has been blowing me away this week, perhaps finally justifying the original investment in the IAPs and MPE controller.

The SWAM instruments are very, very expensive for desktop, but they are superb (iOS versions included). I'm an electronic musician who plays guitar, I never imagined I'd be doing woodwind solos. I began with a surprising bassoon, went for a tenor sax last night, might try a bit of flautism tonight to accompany my burgeoning string section - all from just plugging my phone into my computer (seaboard block connected via bluetooth to phone, recording in Bitwig). If you have the option to use Roli Noise in this way I can highly recommend it, definite value for money.

EDIT - you don't necessarily need good keyboard skills, you can get a lot from one expressive finger.

  • AUM. I use it but only because I have to. Have never understood the midi routing and terminology it uses (amongst other things). Everyone else loves it though. This makes me dislike it even more as it points to lack of brain power in user 🧠 😱

  • Mainly all DAWs on iOS.

Just going to leave this here so as not to forget:

“ Disappointment is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations or hopes to manifest. Similar to regret, it differs in that a person who feels regret focuses primarily on the personal choices that contributed to a poor outcome, while a person feeling disappointment focuses on the outcome itself. It is a source of psychological stress. The study of disappointment—its causes, impact, and the degree to which individual decisions are motivated by a desire to avoid it—is a focus in the field of decision analysis, as disappointment is, along with regret, one of two primary emotions involved in decision-making.”

True. Maybe disappointment isn’t the right word. Either way where is that quote from...?

  • There are tons of apps I dislike, but only a couple that stick in my craw because they could have survived the reaper except for one fatal flaw...

    iMPC Pro 2 - MIDI import/export to/from track
    Playbeat - MIDI I/O in AUv3

    Wikipedia of course 😊👍🏼

  • Preferences for Piano Roll editing are very subjective. I find the X2 and NS2 piano roll editing method perfect for touch screen. I get frustrated as hell with tap-drag, different tiny grabbing points for lengthening or moving notes, etc. etc. in other piano rolls. I especially appreciate it when on a small iPhone screen.

I also prefer separate up-down and left-right control. I hate the attention it takes not to accidentally move horizontally when only wanting to transpose notes, or to keep from changing the pitch of notes when all I want to do is move them.

    To each their own. B)

Could you explain in more detail how you‘re using Saturn as an amp sim? It‘s so complex that I could not come up with too many great sounding presets yet. I feel that there‘s lots of potential within this app.

Sure, I use one Saturn at the beginning of the chain set on “The Tube” preset (it’s in the first category of presets I think) as sort of a preamp/slight boost pedal with some coloration. Then I have my effects chain. Then I use a second Saturn at the end using either a custom patch using one of the amp sims, or one of the guitar amp presets tweaked to taste (I think Sparkly I end up using a lot as a base). Finally the end of the chain is a convolution reverb using one of the high-quality IRs I pulled from my Strymon Iridium. There are plenty of free IRs out there though. I use the Gospel Musicians’ convolution reverb app to load the IRs, but there are a couple free ones I think, but their names escape me right now.

I usually have to tame the bass on the second Saturn preset by jacking down the bass eq 6-10 db. It’s the only thing about Saturn that doesn’t sound realistic to me. Could just be my preference for that Telecaster twang though.

  • All apps by Jordan Rudess except GeoShred. I got them as my very first apps cause I thought that was all there were. Silly me!

I like Samplewiz a great deal after I turned off all of the Gandalfy animation and cleared out several of the presets.

  • iOS apps are so cheap that if I manage to use each one at least once in a track, that’s usually enough to stop me feeling disappointed. Even if it never gets used again, it contributed to something creative at the time, usually for about the price of a cup of coffee.

However, I’m always disappointed with the current thing holding me back. Currently it’s the lack of a proper solution for audio tracks within the Xequence 2 -> AB -> AUM situation, so all those apps disappoint me at the moment. But I’m sure it’s temporary :)

  • iMPC Pro 2, there I've said it. Wished it was more similar to MPC Live and the desktop MPC app...
...loving the free MPC Beats on the desktop though. Makes the GAS for hardware grow but I'll keep throttle down for now :)
