that keyboard looks good, CME?
I saw the thread title, and I was like ANOTHER shimmer reverb? ANOTHER Eventide app that is semi-identical to the other Eventide apps I have?
And then I listed to the @RedSkyLullaby
Dammit.
Yes cme Xkey air, bit expensive but it is full size keys and has velocity and aftertouch
I'm a fan of shimmers on acoustic pianos and the @RedSkyLullaby proves the case for that purpose. So, I tried some guitar as the source and discovered a preset where there's this delayed "violin" sound that follows the guitar lead. I looped 2 tracks in L7 and then played over them... all tracks are electric guitar into Shimmer with nothing added. No Amp Sim's or any other AUv3 FX. (Maybe a touch of L7 Reverb added).
I think this one is full of unique Eventide magic like most of them. I passed on the 2 most recent releases but my love of solo piano made me grab this one.
Damn, Professor McD!
That is truly otherworldly!
Will be adding this to my Black Friday Deals list...
Sounds good
Thank you. Very interesting! Definitely has its own sound. Almost a kind of organ sound in this and other demos too
Man, if there's one effect I can resist buying, it's a freakin shimmer reverb. Sure, they're amazing when you first get into ambient music and realize they are a shortcut to an interesting sound. Then you realize about a billion people have had the same idea and the magic quickly wears off.
/Personal gripe over, move it on along
Lol @oat_phipps some truth in that
Last time I've used this effect in a song, I've done some heavy filtering to get rid of the too obvious bright shimmery effect but keep the nice paddy soundbed. IMHO it works best with only a few notes played.
BTW, if you try my shimmer reverb patch on patchstorage, try turning the "preset" knob to the very left for a darker , somewhat droney sound character.
@rs2000 I'm curious to try it, I've completely neglected Drambo as I've confessed many times before. I like your idea of putting a filter after a Shimmer, will certainly try that.
Sounds like a drunk Steve Howe playing in the background...
got it ! this reverb is fantastic ! tx @Orville
@oat_phipps If everyone is using the hammer to drive nails into some wood, then it might be time to use the hammer as a make shift vibrator and get those sky rockets in flight
KQ Dixie, Modular, and ShimmerVerb
4 Part KQ Dixie patch sequenced by Fugue Machine, through Make Noise Mimeophon, modular delay, and ShimmerVerb. Fab Filter Pro Q3 for mixing.
So I was a lot less active on AB Forum and with iOS music in the last 2-3 years, only to resurface and discover that freakin' Eventide started making AUv3 plugins. Let's just say that I've owned 100+ guitar pedals, but never even once thought about purchasing an Eventide. (Not really sure why, just seemed too "professional" for me). So $10 to $20 for a high-end plugin still feels like robbery, though I have the issue now of trying to sort through and only buy the ones that I'd actually use. (Got Spring Reverb and Crushstation so far, really liking both in the honeymoon phase).
I've watched some demo videos and read some forum threads, but I still cannot articulate how Eventide Blackhole differs from Eventide Shimmer. Has anyone tried one or the other that could help with that?
It's deceptive because all of these Eventide plugins actually do a lot more than the name describes. For example, the "Spring Reverb" is also a pretty awesome chorus and tremolo effect. I thought I understood what MicroPitch did, but then read about people using it both to re-pitch samples, "fatten" samples, and add a chorusing effect!
