That folder has 1800 files in it (directly not in subdirectories).
As @wim said, lots of files directly in a folder is a problem.
@tja What did this contribute?
You do not have many files and see no use for them, which is fine.
I am just conveying my experience with an app like everyone else here is. At no time did I indicate that Files required wi-fi. Again, just relating my experience and maybe that can help somebody.
Seems like if a post doesn't bash Apple or gush over an app then it does not "contribute" and should not ever see the light of day.
@tja: no one is saying it isn't a bug. It is a bug. It is also a bug encountered by a very small percentage of iOS users.
I think that question was meant for @Samu , not me.
I find quibbling over "exactly how much the files app sucks" to be highly amusing.
Call me back when it gets to be at least almost as good as Windows 95.
@tja - Try again later. Often the files app is still working in the background, causing such issues.
OK, how’s this? I have folders with hundreds of files and I do not have any issues with the Files app! That’s a fact! And who crowned you the “Forum Police”? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just for info, I tried this file in GoodReader (which appears On My iPad) and File Explorer Pro (which appears in the Locations sidebar). The Files app was able to see the extracted files in both cases. I also copied the file to the Downloads folder and unzipped it there. Still no problem, except the iPadOS unzip is much slower than the others. iPadOS 13.6 on iPad 6.
I believe that the Files app is not a general Finder or Windows Explorer like on a computer. It relies on each app providing an interface it can use, and it accesses the files they provide. That's why the folders On My iPad are so helter-skelter. The apps support the interface, but may or may not provide any files. So these problems are most likely flaws in specific apps interfaces to Files, not the Files app itself.
I've been away from work but trying to get back now...
I'll have a look and see if I can spot any weirdness going on from my side.
Ok, seems to be a memory limit (of 15 MB) that iOS/FileProvider applies, so when returning a list of a large number of items it crashes with a "you used too much RAM!". The documentation doesn't mention this anywhere. I'll try to fix it.
And... fixed! I'll try to put out an AudioShare beta tomorrow.
