BM3/Atom/Piano Motifs
TLDR: need to get Atom midi into BM3 piano roll.
NTLILTRELD: was having issues with getting piano motifs midi into BM3, bought iap and thought it was solved but midi notes still recording goofy with a percussive attack not present in the synth sound. Bought Atom and loaded as midi effect in BM3, recorded midi out from piano motifs perfectly, no percussive sounds, no overlapped notes/octaves or truncated notes. I’ve tried my damndest to now get midi over from Atom into BM3 piano roll unsuccessfully. Recorded with every configuration of channel, input, output I can think of and notes won’t record. I can see them flashing in BM3 as they play but they won’t record. Can’t figure out where I’m going wrong. Loaded Atom on bank and/or pad and neither worked. Probably missing something stupid. So much closer than I was two days ago but can’t quite get over the hurdle. Hoping for a boost from the all knowing AB community!

I know this feeling of going down the rabbit hole of buying tools to try and make other tools do what you want, hope it works out!
@king_picadillo You can use my Route plugin (part of the MIDI Tools app) to route Atom back into BM3. Here's a video:
Already have midi tools based on tk32’s advice so maybe I’m a step ahead of it this time? I’ll try it today and report back, thank you.
@king_picadillo - the basic problem is BM3 doesn't record AU midi output. So, you have to send the midi outside of BM3 and then back in to record it. The video above is showing one such way. There are others.
We already covered this with another app
, but the concepts are the same: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/833048/#Comment_833048
You can also just host Atom outside BM3 in Audiobus or AUM, then send the midi to BM3 to record it.
Thanks @tk32, I’m slowly picking up the labyrinth that is BM3 for my old head. I applied the method in the vid and got one of the motifs recorded into BM3 clean. Already put a track together with it and am starting a new one using the scale lock and overlays thanks to you. Any idea why when I’m recording PM directly into BM3 the note lengths change/shorten and some notes overlay each other? Although Atom is useful for the reasons stated here, I’d like to someday have the convenience to record directly into BM3.
What is your setting in the top bar "Q" in BM3? If you have it at 1/16th with note offs quantization turned on, then that could explain why you get the shortened note lengths when recording in BM3. Try recording with both quantizations turned off.
If I try to do a plain import of a PM .mid file in BM3, I see different kinds of note lenghts in the BM3 pattern, even when quantize was set to On. Not sure what's happening on your side.
Start Q off, note length set to free because I want to capture the swing from PM. I’ll turn both Q’a to off and try that. I just updated to 13.6 because either Retro Piano, KQ Dixie was causing stutters in a track. Maybe the update will address this too. Thanks for the heads up.
Midi route plugin doesn’t validate with Zenbeats.
Is there a way to make it work?
I don't believe there is a way to make Midi Route work with Zenbeats. It just doesn't like it at all.
But you probably don't need it. Zenbeats can record AU midi. You just need to turn off "Pre MIDI FX". Long press MIDI at the top of the track header and you'll see it.
