How to transfer my Audiobus presets to another iPad?

I have a two Audiobus presets in the Audiobus app itself that of course include various filters from AUFX and others.

I'm able to export the presets from the Audiobus preset menu to two .audiobuspreset files and email them to myself.

Now I have these files, but there doesn't appear to be any way to import them back into Audiobus on my other iPad on which I've newly installed Audiobus.

There's no "Open in..." or use of the Files app or iCloud available in Audiobus to get them imported.

I tried using the File Sharing feature in iTunes to get access to the Audiobus file system, and there are two directories there: Presets and Default.abcontrollerprofile.

There doesn't appear to be any way in the iTunes interface to drop the files in the Presets directory, so I tried dropping them at the root of the Audiobus file directory.

After I did that, I ran Audiobus, and the imported presets didn't show up.

Next I tried deleting the Presets directory in the File Sharing view, putting my two presets in a folder called "Presets" and transferring that directory to the Audiobus file system. While the transfer succeeded, again, when I run Audiobus, the new presets don't show up.

Surely this has to be possible. I'd hate to have to manually recreate all of my filter chains on the new device.

Any suggestions? Seems bizarre to have a preset export feature without any way to import them back..

The easiest thing to do is to simply airdrop them between devices. The preset transfers virtually instantaneously and opens automatically on the other device.

If you do need to use email for some reason:

    1. Save the zip file attachment from your email on the device using "Save to Files"
    2. Open the files app, locate the file, long-press it, and select "Uncompress"
    3. Tap the uncompressed file and select "Copy to Audiobus 3"

In general, if the .audiobuspreset files are already saved in the files app, then the way to import them to Audiobus is simply to tap the file and select "Copy to Audiobus 3". If for some reason that's not showing up in the list of apps, then tap the "... More" icon and you should see it there.

  • "Copy to Audiobus 3" is not present in the list of targets and it's not showing up after clicking the "... More" option in the Files app.

  • This is on an 10.5" iPad Pro running iOS 13.6 and the latest version of Audiobus 3. Audiobus doesn't even show up as an available target in the files app or in any of the iOS share sheets as an option.

  • OK, finally found a working procedure. If I export the preset to iCloud Drive, then on the target iPad in the Files app, with the file on iCloud Drive, the option to Copy to Audiobus 3 shows up for the exported files and I was able to transfer the presets. Thanks for the help!

I still say Airdrop is the best way though. B)
Virtually instant, and none of that other hassle.

I'll try that as well. For some reason my older original iPad Air is taking forever, like a couple of minutes, to discover available Airdrop targets such as the newer iPad Pro.

I was already well into the iCloud Drive method when the original iPad finally saw the iPad Pro as an Airdrop target, so I didn't go that route, but will definitely try if I need to transfer presets again in the future.

    Thanks again!

  • email to yourself. done

  • That's what I did at first and unfortunately didn't work. The "Copy to Audiobus 3" option wasn't available on the received files. Exporting through iCloud Drive worked fine as I mentioned above, definitely will try the AirDrop suggestion as well next time.

The email attachments come as zip files I believe, so for them to “open in” Audiobus they need to be unzipped to the files app. Once unzipped one way or another, the open-in option for AB3 should be there.

Strange about Airdrop not finding devices. Bluetooth enabled on everything and same WiFi network, I assume? Strange.

Hi @wim , thanks for this, it’s the issue I’m currently sorting between my iPad and iPhone.

I find it easier to create AB3 presets on the iPad BUT use them on the iPhone as I play live guitar, through Midi Guitar 2 in AB3 along with some other Apps/AUs. I have the iPhone in one pocket, a brilliant little Ultimate Ears speaker in a back pocket with all the wiring and iRig looped through my jeans’ belt loops; all covered up by my fleece. Anyway, enough of that, thought it might be entertaining.

Getting back to Air-dropping issues, I can happily Airdrop photos, notes, even Synth One presets, to AND from my iPhone and iPad. I can also Airdrop AB3 presets FROM my iPhone to my iPad.

The ONLY thing that doesn’t work is AB3 presets FROM my iPad to the iPhone.

    Any Ideas?

PS. Just noticed that, with AB3 running in the iPad, and with my, hopefully to be exported, setup, AB3 is reporting processor usage of up to 115% and everything a bit sluggish!

Have you checked iOS Settings > General > AirDrop to be sure the settings match your phone?

The first thing to try is always restarting the device.

Thanks @wim , but still the same. Not a big deal though, just annoying.

  • I'm convinced there's a reason and it can be solved if looked at methodically, but if it's not that important to you then it's all good. 👍🏼

Yes @wim and I want to know too. The only thing I’ve done recently is update the iPhone from iOS 14 to 15.3.1. iPad is iOS 12.5.5

I’d be happy to try out any suggestions you can think of.
