Mood Units Walkthrough Video (winners announced)

Mood Units Walkthrough Video (5 copies to give away!)

See the pinned comment at the top of the youtube comments section for details on how to win.

Mood Units is a collection of Audio Units for iOS (universal!) by Rob Jackson, developer of well-loved apps Touchscaper and Moodscaper. The main instrument is a collection of very nicely sampled analog synths, in many cases further processed through high end boutique effect units and pedals. There are then separate FXpansion audio units: a lovely delay, a 10 band EQ, a nice filter with super slow lfo possibilities for nice filter sweeps and a reverb. In this video I will talk about the pros and cons of using a sample-based app like this and show how to use the various units. Fans of analogue sounds from the likes of Boards of Canada and Stranger Things will find much to like here.

  • If you have it, try to remember to give a rating. There’s 1. I wrote one but It’s not up yet. This app deserves stars. At least imo.

  • Yes! So many ppl always forget to rate and review.

  • So far I am enjoying some of the patches in this little gem. Nice work from the dev!

  • Definitely. I'd love it if it got mpe treatment, and I've heard on the grapevine that it might, quality sounds here for sure though, really tastefully done.

  • Here's a link to my tutorial, really enjoying this and will definitely be using it more in my other vids

    This!

  • When I said on the grapevine, I meant heard it from you haha @despego

From me? When have I made a request about MPE?

Seriously, touchscaper is already MPE friendly and @moodscaper , as far as I understood is considering the idea.

  • Exactly, I think you just mentioned he's considering it. Definitely hope so.

  • Hi @Gavinski - loved the video, much appreciated. And thanks for the positive comments and encouragement guys! Yes to MPE! In fact, I plan to create a set of Waverley instruments designed specifically for MPE controllers, hopefully with a few interesting twists

  • Awesome, @moodscaper looking forward to it.

  • Woohoo, great news @moodscaper. Please make sure to implement all aspects of mpe properly. I'm not sure how much you follow other threads on the forum, other than those for your apps, but if you do you might have noticed that most mpe synths for iOS have been a let-down. Definitely need to have all 5 aspects of mpe control on the go! Most leave out the option for any kind of release messages.

  • And it would be great if we could choose what we want to modulate with each of the 5 aspects, not only filter cut-off.
MPE applied to the effects would be awesome. Great expressive possibilities.

I've got a Linnstrument and a lot of enthusiasm. Let me know if you want beta testers @moodscaper

I hear you @Gavinski, although there are technical limitation with how fully MPE can be supported - I suspect I'll hit a few walls there too. I think most of the time, people equate polyphonic aftertouch on a conventional keyboard with MPE, whereas obviously there's a lot more to MPE than that. Just to be clear, work on this realtime modulation stuff is a way off yet as it's currently looking like a huge amount of work that I never really intended to support in the first place  But, having accidentally exposed the params in v1.0.0, and the reaction that caused (ahem...) I see that it's of value to some so the best I can do is put it on the list for now.

  • OK sure! @moodscaper, do what you can, in your own time.

  • Made a separate thread for this but I’ll stick it here for posterity. Forgive the slightly dodgy keyboard playing. Although I love Velocity Keyboard, it is nevertheless hard to play with much sensitivity on an ipad screen, at least for me, or at least currently!

  • And the Mood Units lucky winners are...
    Portwain
    Simon Gregory
    Hagen Presser
    Kruser32

Thanks again to Rob for the codes.
