Volume booster for weak phone's audio output

Hi guys,
My phone has a weak audio output. It s frustrating when trying to listen to music or watching a video in an urban environment. I've been checking on the app store if they had any volume booster apps and I was very surpised to see that the only options available are suscriptions apps that can reach 11€ a week.!! I know I could add a DAC to my earphones but I don t want to add an extra piece of gear.
So do you know of any alternative to boost your audio level when listening to multimedia stuff on your phone ? Maybe Morphit could boost the volume?

  • Your answer will depend upon the app making the music. iTunes for example will not allow you access to the audio stream because you might record the stream and steal music. IN fairness to Apple they had to show the content companies that the music would be "pay per play" so they implemented these safe guards.

If your listening to music via YouTube there is a "Tube AU" app you can run in a DAW and the game is afoot. Any audio processing you like is fair game from gain stage boosting to reverbs and such.

So, what app do you use? For most (Spotify, Pandora) you answer will lie outside the iPhone I fear in with external gain boosting in powered headphones or speakers. I wish we had that right to modify the listening experience... EQ adjustments for example but reverbs can also work wonders on a lot of music smoothing out the harsh highs.

  • What kind of headphones are you using?
Some headphones are harder to drive than others...

  • I think it should be loud ( or even loud enough to damage your hearing in the long run) by default if everything works fine. Try your phone with a different earphone and the earphone with a different phone.

  • There are some out there for listening to music. Most are free with IAP. Apps like...

    EQ & volume booster

For Spotify and Tidal try - Boom

There a lot out them type apps there.

I have an iPhone 6s and the sound has gotten so low coming out of the phone speakers it’s ridiculous. It’s gotten worse over time, and I know I’m pushing it with the 6s, hopefully getting new iphone in 6 months Or so but still, the drop in volume is significant.

  • Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for your answers! I really appeciate!

    McD:
Most of the suscriptions apps I mentioned offer an overall volume boost on the general audio output. And there is also apps that are exclusively designed for the most communs platforms such as Itune, Spotify....
The first category is the most interesting one for me. I tried a free trial and they really add a considerable boost on the audio output of the phone wih no distortion. Even on the voices notes.
I'm mostly using MUSI, but also Spotify, Deezer, Youtube., Vimeo, my voice notes a lot, web reading apps.....
I actually have Youtube AU but didn't think in using it inside AUM as an audio player. It s actually a great idea. Thanks for the suggestion McD!
    ...............
    SAMU:
I'm using my Iphone earphones ( wired ones) . My Beyerdynamic DT880 pro are clearly too demanding since they need 250ohm to be at their best.
I tried many earphones with a cable taking in consideration Ohms affinities. But always find myself short in volume.
    ................
    GLACEY:
It s clearly the phone output. It s an old Iphone 6S. I have enought juice with my Ipad 6th for exemple. Maybe it s time for me to change my phone then.

You guys are satisfied with your phones output volume?
I'm not a loudness crazy kind of person by the way.

  • The only source for 'low volume' I can think of when using the Apple Earpods or AirPods is if some app has enabled measurement mode, that really kills the volume...

Thanks for the suggestions Samu but no, no measurement mode enabled. I mean it s not that low. I can listen to a song with no problem in a quiet environment but very hardly in the street. I think it has the normal output level for an Iphone 6S but it s probably much more shorter than what recent phones can give I guess.

  • Apple's new AirPod Pros seal the ear and use active noice cancelling from external noise so you can really her the music and walk right in front of a bus without hearing it coming. And to prevent law suits they also have an option to mix a recording of outside sounds in with the music so you hear that bus coming.

Thanks McD: but might be a bit expensive for me at the moment.

But overall I'm very suprised to see that these "general volume booster" apps cost ( in most case) between 6€ to 11€ / week!!! ( as an IAP)

Compared with the complexity of developments of the apps that we are using in music production like daw, fx, sampler.... its hard to understand that a simple booster fader is so expensive.

I don’t have any issues with the volume on my 6s with apple earbuds. Maybe the volume is down on the headphones themselves? I walk around nyc with the apple earbuds though and usually have them fairly low.

True. Anything with noise cancelling will help the music cut through. There are cheaper
noise cancelling headphones and there are cheaper headphones that have larger magnets and produce more volume as a result. Look for the specs on the magnet size or any indication of high efficiency output.

Yea my iPad 6 is good but my iPhone 6s has been so low for awhile now. And I had a battery replaced in the iPhone 6s 1-1.5 5 years ago when they had the battery sale because they. I basically have to do every call on speaker phone and never listen to anything through it with out a speaker or headphones.

    Hi,

It can be frustrating to deal with weak audio output on your phone, especially in noisy environments. While there are volume booster apps available on the app store, many of them come with a hefty subscription fee.

Adding a DAC to your earphones is one option, but if you'd rather not go down that route, there are a few alternatives you could try.

One possibility is to use a third-party equalizer app such as Morphit. These apps allow you to adjust the sound settings on your phone to enhance certain frequencies, which can help to improve the overall volume and clarity of your audio.

However, it's worth noting that some apps may not work with all types of headphones or earphones, so you may need to experiment to find the best solution for you.

Can you tell me the current USD EUR exchange rate?

  • On good quality headphones you got a system in order to not damage your eras with high volume. In Europe I think it will become even compulsory. First avons Audio Damage.

With a non BT , a wired pro headphones like my DT 770 you don’t need much of the time noise cancellation ( they don’t have) but you are isolated as they are manufactured to avoid loop feedback during recording. You get also all small details at low level.

Big wired closed pro headphones from a good manufacturer is a solution. In Berlin you got a shop where you can copareeaand hear all headphones, big choices. After 2 hours in this shops I find that the better ones re not the pricey ones and reman brands are at the top. Pricey Beats headphones were the worst.

A booster is not the solution, the best should be to try varois headphones to find what are better for you.
