awesome mathieu. thanks!
@PaulB I totally get it.
Hey,
We have requested an expedited app review to get the update live ASAP.
Stay tuned, and in the meantime, you can play with the internal BM2 effects :-)
Cheers,
Mathieu.
@PaulB I have actually experienced the internal iOS audio bug several times when using AudioShare and MultiTrack DAW at the same time, so it's not just a Beatmaker issue.
@PaulB @Sebastian If it helps, here are the repro steps:
When you click on the sleeping MultiTrack DAW button in Audiobus and it switches to the app, the error message is there every time.
Thanks!
@iCliffDotMe I wasn't suggesting that an iOS bug doesn't exist, only that the symptoms described by SpaceDog were unique to Beatmaker 2 and that somehow, other apps were avoiding it. Your activation of the iOS bug not only shows different symptoms, using a different procedure, but does so by starting apps in an order that is not recommended when using Audiobus. Do you get the same error when you open Audiobus first, as recommended, and let Audiobus open AudioShare? I don't.
Does anybody know if there will be a desktop version of beatmaker 2.0? No one at intua seems to entertain this question on there forum. The makers of nano studio have desktop version of nano and it allows me to unload my beats from my iPad and go back to them later with out having to reload them onto my iPad. But beatmaker is way better than nano and I'm a diehard beatmaker user. Maybe one of you guys here can run this by the men at intua!! I would l Iove to hear some feed back on this question. Thanks!
@PaulB I posted mostly in reply to your comment: "All this latest statement says to me is that there's a problem in the way they are using the iOS audio system and they'd rather wait for Apple to change something than change their approach to circumvent the problem like everyone else."
Unless I'm mistaken, the statement from Intua WAS concerning the issue I outlined, which has been established as being a separate bug from the FX slot issue. I was just trying to illustrate that "everyone else" had not been able to "circumvent the problem" that the statement addressed.
As for the order I opened the apps, I wasn't using AudioShare with Audiobus. It was often already open for me because I use it to manage my drum samples, which I would set up before starting my Audiobus session. Everything else was done in the recommended order; it was simply the condition of having AudioShare open beforehand that brought the issue to light.
"...you have to make sure "Background Audio" is enabled for BM. (not in the BM options, but the iOS options for BM)."
Isn't it part of the Audiobus 'spec' that apps should automatically enable background audio when Audiobus is present? Other AB-enabled apps manage this. Why not BM2?
@iClifDotMe Fair enough. Are you able to open AudioShare from Audiobus and then manage your drum samples?
I guess for me, regardless of the details of which bug was the culprit, what it boils down to is providing a workflow for the customer so they can do what the app has been advertised as doing. Passing the buck is not good customer service IMO, as it doesn't provide a solution. It also tends to mean that no further investigation is done into what else might be the cause, rather than what has been assumed to be the cause. I used to do both development and tech support, so I have experience of this from the other end. I have definitely been guilty of jumping to the wrong conclusion about a problem, but I have never just held up my hands and said "Not our problem". There is almost always a design or coding workaround for an OS bug.
More headache for me:
Audio latency from Jamup->BM2 is longer than Multitrack DAW. And I couldn't find any option to lower the latency.
Using Beatmaker as Input is not that successful as i was hoping. You can use only ONE instrument (i.e.Drumsampler)at once and it has to be open.Audio stops working when you switch to BM's mixer or edit page.I was hoping i could use an instrument on midi channel 1 and at least one more on midi channel 2.Although everything works well and tight with that one sampler in combination with other apps.I tried it with Animoog,Sunrizer,BM in the input slots,Live FX in Effect slot and Cubasis in output slot.
@washboy:you are right with that, all my apps have the background audio switch off and Audiobus forces them to run in the background anyway.
On the other hand sampling straight into the keyboard sampler is great from other heavyweight iOS apps....
Midi editing and arranging however feels like a big jump backwards after using Cubasis
Is it possible to trigger the bm2 pads from
Cubasis keyboard/pads
i.e....trigger your samples??
yes it is and in cubasis you even have"velocity" (like the one in some syth apps i.e.sunrizer)for the sounds.Although its not possible yet to access the first one and a half pad banks in BM cause they start at C-2 while the cubasis keyboard/editor starts at C0 and the Cubasis pads are not organised (again:yet) in banks so you have just lousy 16 pads and thats it.
I see..not bad
Keep the interface/ui of cubasis
Use the functionality of bm2
Have as yet got my bm2/cubasis workflow
finalised,but its getting there...
Thank you Crabman
Crabman,I'm able to trigger the 'keyboard sampler',but I want to trigger the 'drum machine'(as this is where I place my chopped samples)
That possible?
Thanks.
I was talking about the beatmakers drumsampler.Just to make it clear:you would like to play the drumsamplers pads with the cubasis internal keyboard (and record the midi notes of course),right? And yes, that's possible.
What is currently NOT possible:to sync Beatmakers own sequencer to cubasis via midi sync because cubasis doesn't offer midi sync yet.But i'm sure they gonna add it soon, maybe in the next update (with a little luck)?
That's right.
I can't get the bm2 drum pads to trigger.
Think I've configured it ok as I
can trigger the bm2 keyboard from cubasis.
I had a problem triggering pads in BM with NanoKey 2 from KORG. SImple solution was MIDI Bridge app I just mapped triggered notes from controller to new ones in BM....the controller triggered like 4 or 5 octaves higher notes than first A bank for pads in BM! The problem was only in BM..all other apps like iMPC are working with no need for mapping notes.
I had the problem with my nanokey as well and it drove me nuts,i even opened thread about in the steinberg forum. Then i got the stupendously answer that cubasis does not support midi thru. What a bummer, that's such a basic function...good thing:they will add it in the next update as well.
@commonstookie:make sure the drumsampler is open/in front when you switch from BM (in Audiobus mode)to cubasis!! I realized that Drumsamplers Audio is not working when i am in another window like the mixer page or arranger window(in BM).It stops playing then.Don't ask me why...another bug they have to sort out i guess.i already wrote that in the intua forum.I don't know if thats the case with the keyboard sampler as well,i simply did not try...
Good man
Will try now.
Thank you crabman.
Notes don't show in the editor, but it is working.
And update to fix this is available today.
Thank you Sebastian.
@Crabman, did you get that info first hand from Steinberg? MIDI Thru would be great news! I can't believe they left that out in the first place...
Yes,they answered in this thread:
http://www.steinberg.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=183&t=34210
okay, after checking the thread again:they HOPE to add it in version 1.2
So,let's knock on wood
Hi. Sorry to be writing a slightly random question. I'm doing it because I can't see the answer anywhere and I saw Mathieu from Intua present . Not totally unrelated.
Beatmaker 2 is dogs bollocks which is a good thing, love routing, effects, etc.....one thing though: how do I rename tracks in mixer section. I can do that in timeline view but that does not affect the mixer! I'm trying to go by colours but that is not very practical. Does anyone know how to do that? If not possible can it please be added in the next update? Thanks and thumbs up for the app!
BM is my favorite sequencer and sample editing tool.
After the AB update I'm using it much more as a DAW as well.
Talking about updates, a major request I'm sure everybody will love...
Please, add a Modulation Wheel to the Keyboard Sampler!
I'll add one of my 'headaches' concerning Beatmaker 2.
It's more like really frustrating that the Sample editor in beat maker lacks 'handles'(similar to those when editing loop points or setting chops) to adjust the selection when editing samples. It's way too easy to loose the selection when trying to adjust the start or end point, especially when zooming in our out in the sample by pinching with is really needed for precise trimming...
I have given up on iMPC Pro because it's inability to handle external USB Audio Devices properly making it practically useless for sampling external sources.
Only time will tell if BM3 will be the ultimate sampling workstation on iOS.
(Or will i have to resort to Korg Electribe Sampler when it comes out...).
