  • Well done! Sounds wonderful.
Did you use any desktop sample libraries?

Ah, yes. I used the new Emotional Viola (a Kontakt library which was a no brainer buy since i already love the cello and violin from them). But also sounds from iOS apps like iSymphonic.
Then as usual tons of FX like the new Lunar Lander (which should come for iOS as well in near future).
So it is mainly made all with my laptop since i played it live via my computer keyboard (i really like it this way).
But i import still lots of sounds from iOS apps.
I really like iSymphonic but it is much better to perform imported into a sampler (like the Logic Sampler in this case).
That i only have right now an iPhone as iOS device plays a big part as well.
So it is another mac/iOS hybrid. Sadly nice solo instruments are still missing on iOS, especially for real legato and portamento. I am still waiting for the SWAM strings.

  • Thank you @Clueless!
This very much reflects the way I'm using sonds.

  • @Clueless Enjoyed this a lot. Liked the guitar(?) line at 2:40 - wished for more! Can’t believe you played all of this on your computer keyboard- it’s sounds so expressive.

Thank you. The thing is i really love to use the qwertz (or qwerty) keyboard as midi input. Of course its missing velocity, aftertouch and so on but for this i use keyswitches with the other hand if needed. I mastered this better than playing my Seaboard Rise, lol.
Also of course i use some things like little randomizations everywhere. So each render of this track might sound slightly different (which i like too). A very important thing for me f.e. is different dynamics within a chord which is nearly impossible for me to play with a real keyboard/velocity but easy to achieve with things like randomize the velocity within a certain range, so that i still have control over a larger dynamic but also that each voice within a chord get different values/dynamics/volume. It can make night and day.
Its also because i just like to open a device and just play and record without connect any midi keyboard, interface or something else.
I indeed hop all iOS DAWs would support qwertz(y) keyboard as midi input. I just need the tactile feedback for the feel while playing. I mean i also love touch screens with apps like Animoog but i have a hard time to play on flat glass.
I also like to use complex layered arps (not in this track) via live input which took me a while to program but you might not even think that it is just an arp playing with a held chord :)

  • Really nice! Polished-sounding and played with real sensitivity too

  • @Clueless It’s cool how everybody has their own composing workflow. I thought maybe you discovered an MPE compatible computer keyboard. 😉

    :)
Yes. Depending on what tools i use i have achieved a few different workflows.
But indeed i can also use MPE with the trackpad as well as "real" velocity (so you could say a bit like the iOS velocity keyboard app). There are some really amazing tools out there which makes simple things really expressive if you want. Once muscle memory kicks in it is also not too hard to use and i am not a great player at all ;)
Still Animoog was THE app which wowed me first really about easy expressive playing.
It just can get better with MIDI 2.0.
