TB Compressor or Barricade

I mostly work in BM3 and have all the built in fix, but also Amazing Noises Limiter, Korvpressor, FAC Maxima, 4 Pockets compressor, Virsyn multi fx... I love the TB stuff, I have their Reverb, VCF Filter and Reel Bus.... besides that I’m all app’d out so I have to be a bit pickier with my choices. My question is can barricade be used as a limiter and compressor effectively which would make me lean in that direction? Or am I better off getting the TB compressor because I have other limiters...or should I get Barricade because I have other compressors? Trying to get the most bang for my buck since I’m on restriction from buying apps all pell mell and willy nilly.

  • While I’m at it, I have chordpolypad, scalebud and chordion. What do ya’ll think about Navichord, it’s on sale currently and would fit into the $20 budget I’ve allowed myself after buying OPL, OBx, Piano Motifs, Atom, Fortamento and a couple others in a scotch blinded spree in the last couple of days? Believe it or not, I’ve used just about every app I’ve purchased so I’m not just collecting.

Depends which aspect you're trying to improve on.
TB Comp is very versatile so it can take care of most comp stuff. Great all rounder.
TB Barricade is more of a bus/master channel processor (optional colour, transparent comp, limiter, metering), it won't go as deep in terms of compression but in that scenario there is rarely a need to be drastic.
You can't really go wrong with either of them. To me personally TB Barricade represents more value (because of its metering - only alternative is FF)

  • @0tolerance4silence Thanks for the reply. Majority of my tracks are digital with some live guitar sprinkled in. Vocals are hip hop/rap/spoken word so no need for any crazy compression. Forgot to mention I also have bark filter which has the tripleband setting I use on the master, not sure if that’s relevant to the question or in any way compares to what barricade can do or if I would use it in addition to in the master chain.

  • Barricade is excellent as the last item in your bus chain. It is on every song’s master bus for me. Even if I’m not using the limiter, I’ll add a little compression and use the LKFS meter.

The compressor is...well a compressor. If you need a compressor, it’s a very solid one and makes me happy.

  • Thanks @DukeWonder I’m starting to feel like I’m going to relapse and get both. Only reason I’m not looking at morphit is because my headphones aren’t listed... Damn you creative, diabolical app elves and your endless stream of sweet temptations!

  • This one is also pretty good and it is free to try:

  • I think with Morphit. You could just choose a headphone simulation that seems flat because you would record without morphit anyway.

If you had studio monitors it wouldnt be recording the speaker output, just your interpretation.

  • Get Navichord.

  • Thanks everyone, though I must say this is the worst support system for an appaholic! Reminds me of the old anti-drug after school specials “I’m trying to stay off the stuff” “No, man do it, just do it, this one is better maaaan, turn on, don’t be a square.” ;)

Lol. This forum could probably double as AA, Appaholics Anonymous of course. Lol. At least it’s a positive and creative use of time, well as long as you use the apps.

  • No doubt, wifey said she don’t mind because I used to buy a bunch of sh!t that had to go in the garage or other rooms of the house. Now all the stuff I’m addicted to fits inside the iPad, for now at least.

PS I bought Navichord and I’ll probably buy Barricade next. Just one more fix, I swear, I just gotta get right and I’ll be good I promise. *slaps forearm
