Best apps to organize samples?

I’d use Files (it’s much better than some would have you believe), Sample Crate or AudioShare. The organization part of it is not the app but rather what makes sense to you. Each app has its strengths. Sample Crate has some nice features (batch renaming being one) that the others don’t have. I think the only thing I really miss in SC a zip/unzip function.

I'd use files too except for the awkward and practically useless preview mechanism. Flipping pages just to hear a sound, then having the attack destroyed by fade-in on all but the first play is ridiculous.

AudioShare was perfect for me, but as a file-provider, you can't import whole folders, only single samples, from it into other apps.

SampleCrate is working out nicely. It's about the only thing that is making me want to move my iPad off of 14.8 a little earlier than I had planned. I'm still holding off for now, hoping for Drambo and some other apps to adjust for the three-dots multitasking thing being in the way. Loving Sample Crate on my iPhone though.

FWIW when using AS just make a folder full of samples and zip it. Imports nicely into NS2 (and any other app that will import a zip).

A suggestion for the next AudioShare release:

It would be great if I could use the strong AUv3 plugin TB Morphit as insert effect for listening to the soundfiles via headphones.
This would be a great asset for evaluation and of course also for listening to normal music.

In AUM I use TB Morphit all the time when using headphones. However, the file player is more cumbersome for selecting files.
In AudioShare, on the other hand, I can quickly select the files to listen to.

I hope my wish is represented understandably.

  • I use Audioshare as manager and SampleCrate as browser.

  • Audioshare
    Samplecrate
    Files App
    External HD or SSD
