iPad Air 2019 AUM question

Does anyone know if the 2019 iPad air has the graphics issue as the 2017 iPad pro? Its the one that happens in AUM where opening/moving windows spikes the processor usage. Its bad enough that you can really only run the device to 40-50% at low buffer.

I bought a used 2018 iPad pro to resolve this. It works fine, but I really preferred the older iPad setup and am contemplating reselling this one and downgrading slightly. May not be worth the effort though.

  • Info from the Saturn thread where this was discussed:

Yeah I think this is the ipad pro 2017 bug with the GPU, can't remember what causes it, I have it too on my 12.9 2017 Pro....but I don't think there's anything Jonatan can do as I discussed this with him ages ago on the AUM beta.

I'm hoping that the recent news about multi threading in iOS might fix it in a future iOS update though.

  • I'm using AUM on my Air3 and I can't say I noticed anything unusual, though mostly @256 or 128 (not sure how low you need it to go).
I think it depends on the AU in question. Some are pretty GPU hungry.

  • I didn’t notice this on my air3 (latest iPadOS).

Good to know! 2017 iPad pro has this issue with everything below 1024 (or it may be an issue across the board but its not very noticable at high buffer).

I think I'm going to stick with my 2018 as I've already invested in it, but I really miss my headphone jack and home button (the gestures they've replaced it with get in the way of performing).
