Thats an awesome view!
Wow 😍
Love the tapestry/batik(?). New iPad?
Thank you.
It's similar to a batik but not so heavy in feel.
I saw it when passing a roadside stall in South Africa
many moons ago with the sun shining through and said
,'yup, that's for my music room.'
Yeah,....... new iPad.
It's an iPad Air 3, 256gb which is now running alongside my 1st gen Pro.
The Pro is sharing well earned wisdom.
They're getting to know each other.
Those Piezos. I love it 😊
You mean someone broke into your house and set all of this up??!!! Woah!
Great sense of symmetry.
Imagine like those home improvement TV shows...
But someone goes to your house, and rewires your gear and buy you new synths?
Yeah, they're wicked. 😊
Yeah, they might as well have.
I had to go and make a coffee just
to make sure I wasn't seeing things. 😂
Thanks dude.
I love balance and in some ways
it's about duality at the moment.
😂😂😂😂😂
I could get comfortable there. 🔥
What stands are the iPads on? They look like tabletop julian box easels...
They are simple wooden boxes.
I got them from a store called the Works.
https://www.theworks.co.uk/p/craft-hobbies/large-wooden-box---25-x-20-x-10cm/5052089159365.html
I use a wooden phone stand inside to prop them up.
and along one edge is a strip of wood to prevent
the iPad's from falling off .
One layer of cyan blue as a base coat and then
about three layers of metallic copper paint,
with this one I used burnt sienna on the inside.
I did think about the Julian box easels
but I had a couple of these at home already
so I used these instead.
Nice work and cozy studio @Gravitas
Whoa. Is it Christmas where you are?
I just had a closer look at your piezo buttons. I’m guessing you have to mute them when playing the keyboard? Also how are you finding the unavoidable issue of cross triggering?
And one more: how do you manage audio routing from them to interfaces? This is a reason why I’ve opted for Roland SPDS because I’ve moved from akai EIE to zoom u24 for portability reasons and lost 2 audio ins in the process. I’m also asking because I’ve made some piezo triggers myself but found that professionally encased ones such as drum triggers seem to be better at managing cross triggering as well as providing a more consistent dynamics.
And drum roll for the last question: that is a good looking usb hub, are you happy with it? My current set up suffers from some power issues and I’m on the lookout for a decent and stable powered hub. I’m currently using a passive hub with CcK3 and u24 both plugged to two big Apple power adapters but I’m still having occasional drop outs. I’d love to sort that out before I even consider taking my new rig on the stage.
You sleep on a chair? Wow 😳
I don’t mute them when playing the keyboard.
I sort out the cross triggering by careful input levels,
making sure they don't click and using noise gates in dRambo.
It minimises rather than eliminates the cross talk.
Interestingly enough blu tack is quite good at isolating the vibrations.
I've tried them on a solid wooden surface which was really cool.
Obviously, I’m going to be testing various materials
but a week and a bit in, blu tack is consistent.
My approach to the piezo's has been to treat them
as one percussion instrument or drumkit,
as traditional instruments vibrate and resonate as a whole.
I keep the dRambo instruments in the same key
so the resonances are almost always in harmony.
I have the Zoom U-44 and as it has SPDIF in/out
I can use the Behringer SRC96 for the extra inputs.
I can then use my iCon Audio preamp or the Behringer Q802usb
which doubles up as an extra audio interface to connect the piezo's.
If I'm using only the piezo's then I use the iCon Audio preamp
connected directly to the Behringer as it has a lower noise floor.
As I now have two iPads one is going to be a more
dedicated multifaceted sound module and the other
will do the heavy lifting.
Good point in regards to using professional triggers as they’ve spent
the time researching and developing what materials work best.
I'm going to try sticking different materials on top of my
piezo's to see the difference in response and playability.
Nice drum roll. 🥁😁
Yeah, it does the job.
I don't get dropouts at all.
I got this one from PC World, oneof the
very few things I've purchased from them.
I power the iPad using the CCK3 and charge the usb hub independently.
I don't rely upon using the usb hub to charge the iPad though it can provide
enough current to charge my iPhone and the Zoom U-44 as well.
My usb hub can be both passive and active.
I'm currently testing using batteries for when
I take the rig live and for mobile music production.
I can store batteries in the wooden box so
I'm going to use two separate power banks
one for the Zoom and one for the iPad and usb hub.
I'm currently researching which ones are more reliable.
That way there isn't to much draw on the iPad and
usb hub and it's enough power for about two hours
when using heavyweight apps.
I would recommend getting a powered hub.
It makes it much more stable.
I know this from using only the ,'iPad Pro'.
The iPad Air 3 only just landed so I'm about to test it's capacities.
Lololololol nah!!!!!
though I have fallen asleep there before.
A little afternoon nap here or there. 😁
😉
How weird this would come up even in jest.Unfortunately this is my life. Due to a yet undiagnosed medical condition, I cannot lie prone so I sleep somewhat upright in a recliner. I also happen to live in my tiny music studio (although my recliner isn’t right at the controls). Wish I was kidding.
Oh wow dude.
I hear you. 🙏🏽
Sorry to hear that, @hypnopad
Didn’t want hurt anybody in any way.
You make amazing creative things anyway so cheers to that.
No offense taken at all. Just funny how everything is connected. Thanks for the compliment and condolences. Music has always been my most cherished gift.
🙏
I think that could be said for many of us, myself included.
I would not be alive today if it wasn't for music.
🙏🏽
