Combining two mono synths into one stereo input?

My use case: I have two mono synths (SH-01a and Meeblip Geode) that I’d like to combine into Left and Right channels on one of my Focusrite 4i4 stereo inputs (to leave the other inputs available for other things).

I haven’t been able to find good cable options for this. I thought I’d be able to find two mono 1/8” male inputs on one end and one stereo 1/4” on the other end but no luck finding this. What extant cables can help me achieve this? Seems like a common enough use case but I haven’t been able to find good info.

Humm... I never had problems finding such a cable. I have a couple. I think I bought them at a music store, not online, and it was many years ago though.

They have those 1/4 to 1/8 Metal adapters that just go on the metal part. I have a few to turn small headphones into 1/4 in plugs.

So if you found something similar and got a few adapters, that could be an option.

  • Probably no help unless you live in the USA, but here’s what I have. I use two 1/4 to 1/8 adapters when I need to go from 1/8” cables.

  • I’m in Toronto but I can receive cables from the US as well.

There should be 'nothing to it' connect one synth to the Left channel and other one to the Right.

For cabling as I use simple 3.5mm->6.3mm Hosa TS cables for the Volcas.
For the Micro Freak I use a 6.3mm TRS balanced cable.

In the DAW select mono and use inputs 3 or 4. I do this all the time with my UR-242.

My UR-242 has 4 inputs 2 in the front and 2 line-in at the back.
When I need Stereo from the back I select 'Stereo' and use inputs 3 & 4.
When using the individual instruments I choose Mono and use inputs 3 and/or 4.

Worth to note is that two synths require two inputs unless you intend to mix them to one?
As far as I know TRS inputs on interfaces are not stereo, they are used for balanced inputs, so using a two TS to one TRS would create a mayhem as the interface would see it as a balanced input and the synths would try to cancel each other out...

Oh well, I hope you sort it out :)

  • The 4i4 has 4 mono inputs (with only 2 preamps), there’s no single “stereo” inputs as @Samu mentioned - the TRS is for balanced line signals.

  • Ahh thank you all - huge misunderstanding on my part! I wrongly assumed that the two instrument inputs on the front were stereo inputs. Appreciate the guidance.
