Thinking about getting into abelton...do I need a powerful computer?
Also, to anyone who has experience with live...how might my transition be, having only worked in iOS, primarily BM3?

Windows or Mac?
Ableton is a bit different in workflow, there is clip mode, as well as a more linear traditional way of working. Theres also a lot more to it. Abletons sampler is one of the best. slicing and chopping for days if thats your thing.
Ableton can be as deep as you want it to. It can be intimidating at first, but really the basics are quite simple. There are countless tutorials / quick start guides on youtube.
this is from abletons website :

Finding my 2012 Macbook Pro 15" [i7 2.3ghz][16gb][SSD] pretty sluggish these days but workable. You'd want that as a minimum if you're planning on using plugins as you go.
Thanks guys that helps. Asking because I haven’t had a computer in awhile since I use my iPad for everything. But I’m starting to get tired of iOS limitations of music production, but don’t want to break the bank on a computer just used for music production. Also was leaning towards a Abelton cause I just got a launch key mk3 which is basically made for that.
Undecided, which goes better do u think?
Mac has much easier integration with iOS.
Totally agree.. 16GB RAM + SSD bare minimum..
Runs good on my refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro 16gb that I bought for $1,000 US earlier this year. I can’t say I’ve stress tested it though.
Works absolutely fine on my 2012 non-retina, base model MacBook Pro. 8gb RAM, hooked via USB to a bootable SSD, though I tend to record all VST’s to audio.
I find it runs better than Logic, which needs a bit more sauce.
I have Live 10 on a Imac that is now 3 years old. It gets hot, very hot. It died out of warranty and I had to have a new harddrive fitted, fortunately they rescued the files. Yesterday the Mac died again when only looking on the web, again too hot. The sleek metal cover gives little space to allow hot air to escape. Tried all know rescue remedies. The fan only appears to come on when its too late. I have an older model that keeps chugging along but is slow. Never, touch wood had any issues with ipads.
On a plus note Abeleton Live 10 is cool though does have a steep learning curve. Vst are much more than apps mind, look for smaller indepant devs for some extremely cool stuff.
I take it that if you want to work mainly with imported audio - arranging, warping, chopping, mastering using both views etc that you can get along with the minimum spec without any problems? Is this the case?
That’s a good point, there is a big difference between using Ableton as a clip launcher with pre-recorded audio files or samples vs. using it as a real DAW with tons of internal instruments, VSTs, M4L plugins, etc. For the latter, you will need at least an i7 processor, >=16GB RAM and a fast SSD.
Personally I didn’t get Ableton at all at first, especially the whole clip based workflow having used traditional Daws throughout the years, every time I got a piece of gear that came with the free version I always installed it to try it and then uninstalled it, and what finally made it click is when I bought Korg Gadget for IOS and a lightbulb went off and I finally got the concept lol. I love what it does now, and I love the instrument racks, and how you can make you own, which is something I can’t do it logic, ProTools or MPC desktop software.
