Cubasis 2 or 3 (Both On Sale)
Need to summon the oracle. I have BM3 (Main DAW), gadget 2, and a good amount of IAA and AU synths and FX, healthy amount of samples, drums samples for days, Auditor/Segments/Koala... for someone in my shoes, would I be better off with Cubasis 2 or 3 to fill the gaps in BM3, they’re both on sale. Things I’d like: record AU Midi, easy/smooth automation, track headers in sequencer for arranging, freeze track, midi import/export and/or anything else BM3 lacks. Biggest wants are the AU midi, automation and freeze track. I think Cubasis 2 does these things and it’s like 15 bucks currently, but I could be wrong about one or more of them. I’ve also read about bugs and stability issues with 3. I don’t need the newest and shiniest, I just want it to fit the bill for what I’m currently lacking in BM3. Any suggestions?
Comments
Considering I doubt that Cubasis 2 will get any 'feature updates' I would get Cubasis 3.
BM3 is also due for an updated (the question when?) and details regarding it are still unknown...
I still find the audio & midi routing in Cubasis a bit 'lacking' (ie. if you host a plug-in on an audio-track there is no easy way to route midi or audio from another track to the plug-in) and support for multi-input AUv3 is missing so no side chaining or routing audio from an an Audio Track or AUv3 to other track. (I mean we can't even select another track as the input for an audio-track or the mini sampler, like seriously, even BM3 can do this!).
Once/If Cubasis gets Audio & Midi routing similar to AUM or apeMatrix things will definitely be a bit different!
The good thing about Cubasis sale's is that it's usually an indication that an update is coming...
There are some users on this forum that (if allowed or willing) might be able to share some light on the coming BM3 update...
...I know nothing as I'm just a 'regular user' nowadays.
I think those who can add will add their comments to this thread...
Cheers!
Thanks @Samu

The Pigs Auxiliary Balloon Corps will be with you shortly.
You can get Cubasis 3 at a discount if you get it via Cubasis LE, so long as you have a compatible hardware.
I personally went with Cubasis 2-LE because I still favour Garageband as my main DAW, and I really don't need the advanced features...for at least 3 years.
3
It’s one up on 2
Only v3 on phones
CB3 without hesitation.
It’s UI is so much better than 2, it works on iPhone and Android as well as iPad.
Much better on board sounds and fx.
Perhaps it is a little more buggy than 2 but that will get fixed.
2 will never be as good as 3 is now. And 3 will only get better.
Thanks everyone. Based on the rumored forthcoming update to BM3, I got cubasis 2 because I just needed to fill some gaps and don’t want to change daw’s altogether. It was half the price and I was able to get the arp and the waves bundle for 1/2 as well which will transfer when/if I uprade. After the BM3 update and learning C2, I will get C3 on the Black Friday/Christmas sales if I feel like I still need it. Thanks to everyone for your input. I heard from a BM3 wiz that C2 would likely be all I needed after the new BM3 update. That and my emaciated wallet pushed me toward 2.
Nice. Welcome to the crew.
Also, I don't suppose you have Zenbeats? I'm actually thinking of using that a lot more.
i vote yes to zenbeats
@seonnthaproducer, i don’t, didn’t even know it existed until very recently, learned about it on this forum. Frankly, I know it’s not in fashion to like BM3, but save for a few bumps it has served me quite well. I was only looking for something to fill a couple holes until a BM3 update filled the holes or in case they didn’t I would have freeze track and AU midi elsewhere. Also wanted something a little more intuitive for vocals. BM3 has given me the ability to make pretty respectable tracks for me to rhyme on and I am eternally indebted for that reason alone. I think I’m finally good with the amount and quality of DAW’s, synths and fx I have in my arsenal. Now it’s time to get busy!
Hang on, does CB3 have Link?
Nope, if it had it would be printed out in capital letters in the product description
Don't know if it's a Ableton vs. Steinberg issue or something else...
CB2 if it meets your needs. You can’t go wrong with 15 USD , even it goes redundant in a year like many IOS apps it’s still worth it.
I have it and am very happy with it
OK, that saves me some money then!
