  • I’ve been pleased with my 2017 Pro 13” as it has pretty much run whatever I throw at it, BUT unlike the OP I’m running primarily NS2 with almost all native plugins. I’ve written stuff with several AU’s included as well and have run a lot of tracks just fine. I’ve cranked the buffer to the highest unless I’m playing something on the screen like drums or the keyboard. I’m talking +200 NS2 native plugins plus the AU’s.

    This is interesting. I tried:

    • freezing tracks (crackles and sync issues, must be sample rate Issues like you point out).
    • Muting tracks
    • switching off plugins (via the power button in the Zenbeats channel strip)

Will unloading a track free more memory than the above?.

    Yes.

Freezing a track should have the same effect. But it looks like you're having problems with that.

All synths and FX consume some CPU power and all their memory requirement whether they're actively playing or not. And the host has more work to do to poll them to see if it needs to do anything for them. The host doesn't know unless it checks with the plugin whether it needs to do anything with audio, midi, AU parameter events, etc.

I bought the air because it has a headphone jack.
    cpu is same as pro
    I love it.

    This...
Been thinking about the headphone jack. I use it ALL the time. I’m afraid I’m gonna really miss it, I see myself searching for the bloody tongle adapter thingy like they were car keys. So the Air3 has a very capable processor (A12) almost identical single core benchmark. I read that’s the most significant for audio... only 3 gb ram, though...
But Air 3 2019 is significantly cheaper than the 2018 or 2020 pro. So I’m thinking a master-GAS plan. I can get the Air3 plus an iConntectivity Audio for the price of a Pro. Then I can use my current 2015 9’7 pro paired up with the Air 3. Over-complicating things?. Sure!.
Who thought it was a good idea to ditch the headphone jack?.
