Nevermind: mine was a duplicate guess.

  • Not right yet, at the moment I'm a bit pushed for time, so in the morning I will give more clues if no one has guessed by then..

congats to Bsteff21, check your in box in a few minutes

  • It was Alchemy and Cube

  • Thank you!!!!

  • Haha I was going to say, just give it to the guy!

    Congrats bsteff21

  • Relentless lol

  • Pays off. Congrats!

  • Hey @thesoundtestroom should you do one of these in the future wouldn't it make sense to make like 3 attempts each and then a reset if nobody gets it? Also the sound was a bit muddy. Did you muck it on purpose of do those synths sound that way? ;). Just my 5p

  • Also, I know I'm being bitter ;) but, I found it a bit misleading when you said that they've been 'around for a good while'. In iTunes cube version 1.0 shows at October 2013. Complain, complain...just let it go Dom...

  • I've done a lot of these comps now, when I first started I limited the guess to three goes ,that was a disaster, not enough people playing, then I tried five, same thing, so even doing a reset wouldn't work. Its not easy trying to guess the apps.

Then people would complain about time zones.

Then people complained it wasn't fair if I said the name of the first app guessed right.

At the end of the day the developers give me the codes and I give to you, and the fairest way is to run a comp and most people like that.

However if anyone has a better way to do it, put it here and we'll give it a go, Idont mind trying something different.

As for the muddy sound superdom is experiencing has anyone else noticed this, I upload direct from Cubasis in WAV format. All sounds good here and on Soundcloud, this is the first time anyone has mentioned this. Please bear in mind that no effects or EQ are added to the sounds, they are exactly as they sound in the app.

So I have one more code for Sector and three for Worldbeats at the moment, so throw in a few new ideas and we shall try them out :-)

  • How about a name that route? That may get pretty hard once AB2 arrives though.

    OK.

Change of scenery? Not just synths, but other music/effects apps as well? Maybe a different kind of instrument each time? Drums, guitar, piano, organ apps what have you. A more limited pool perhaps, but it would be something different than having to go through the Alchemy-Sunrizer-Animoog list each time.

Don't get me wrong, I like the contests but often it becomes just a guessing contest, with some taking the scatter gun approach (and that would include me at times I suppose). It's very hard to correctly guess a preset from the hundreds that a patricular synth comes with (I could have sworn this one had Sunrizer Supersaw in it) and apps that can glitch and mangle their output such as Alchemy make that even harder.

Another idea would be playing a fairly well-known tune on an app and having people guess the tune? But that would probably be more difficult, with the first listeners guessing it too early for it to be much of a game.

How about for bringing in ideas like this? I'll take the Sector code, please...

    ;-)

  • How about a "recreate this sound" contest? Submissions for 12 hours, then 12 hours of voting (by +1 and -1).

If soundcloud had a less crashy embed option, it would be a lot more practical.

  • Hi, Doug.
Maybe I' m not the best since I won one code recently, but it could work the next (at least it could become more interesting):
No limits on attemps BUT you can't repeat one app. I mean, you can try "iSEM & iMini", "DM1 & Animoog" and so on endless, but no "iSEM & iMini", "iSEM & Thor", etc.

  • edited March 2014

Obviously, the limitation apply on each particular member. One can try iSEM & XXX and another iSEM & YYY.

  • z3ta+ and DM1

Ok, cool. I never run a comp so I respect your voice of experience. I'm cool with freewheeling so bring it on :)

Edit: but I wasn't really complaining I didn't care much about sector somehow only participated because I'm insanely competitive and just want to play no matter what's the prize.

  • Just listened again to the clip. It is mostly the beat that sounds nasty and the arp a little muffled. The solo synth sounds ok.
