Presets, patches and AU oh my.
Hi,I hope this isn’t too simple but I have never figured out how to handle the Audiobus presets within an AU app.
I usually use the Audiobus presets which remember the group of synths, routing , etc. I use midilearn to assign a trigger for each of them and it works very well.
What I don’t understand is how I might change the app preset patches via midi triggers live within a AUdiobus preset. Is this possible? I would like it because it switches faster than the Audiobus preset.
Also, I get confused between the app preset patch and the AB preset patch.
I have included a couple of pics because the nomenclature is so confusing.

Step by Step Instructions for AudioBus AUv3 Preset Change via Midi
I saved 2 AB presets from Continua AU
.
The on the Audio page of AudiBus choose the midicontrol icon (5 pin midi in the bottom right) and selected the Continua AU

Next i selected „Load Preset“ and select the second of my two presets to load on midi input message
and as last step either use a button on an external controller to midi-learn - or manually setup a note, cc or pc message on the ‚virtual midi‘ input of AudioBus and when i used ‚note‘, i could select the note and its channels and also the action (note press, note release, double tap) that will trigger the preset load.
AB Preset patches are saved in audiobus - they are only available in this host and can be used for host controlled preset switching. The hosts preset are often stored visible in the files app for backups. But each host uses a different format, so one can not copy these between hosts
App Presets are saved in the app itself and therefor are available in all hosts. They are not available to host induced preset switching (AB3, apeMatrix or AUM). But sometimes an AU itself reacts to program change messages for presets changes (for instance SynthMaster One)
IOS 13 brough a third variant - shared AUv3 user presets - available in all hosts. (AUM allows to trigger this new save variant when saving AUM presets), but i don‘t know of any AUv3 supporting this
With all the ones i‘ve tried i only get the „The plugin has not implemented shared user presets“ message
