iPad DAW (Auria) vs PC/Mac DAW
Never owned a Mac so this particular issue will be my concerns versus a PC DAW (Cakewalk Sonar) vs iPad (Auria).
Just tried to import a couple of audio tracks into Auria to run them through the pseudo VST effects supplied and purchased. An email copy of my drums (JamStix VST) came through just dandy imported as a mono file (it took a while down sampled as an MP3 file as the wav file was too large to send).
Then I decided to import a bass line from Cubasis via Audio Copy (2?) foregoing the email just to get it in as if I was without WiFi. It came in as a stereo track. No problem, I'll just convert the track to mono as any DAW should do without issues. But of course not, no such command inside Auria that I can find. The user manual was searched without any useful info.
Snap to grid? I am used to snapping to a grid that I determine is useful to my particular project. The tracks in Auria, perhaps somewhere in a menu that I have yet to find, came in out of time and was just a guessing game to align the bass track with the drums though they were in time on my PC after I imported the MIDI files.
Call me a hack as far as Apple is concerned (or otherwise), but I have been making noise since the early 1980's. It has been a long uphill voyage since back in the days but still I would think that the very basics would survive and get ever better.
This may come down to an Auria specific issue to which I should ask Rim on the Auria forum and which I shall do. It also may come down to my inability to comprehend the most basic use of the aforementioned app.
Forgive me if these issues have been covered here or on Auria's forum but I have not come across them yet.
Sleep and then coffee tomorrow will be most welcome.

If you are missing particular features that you are used to, then that's an Auria issue. iOS does not prevent apps having either of those features and there are other apps that do have them.
You could solo the stereo track(s) you want as mono and do a mixdown from the menu, just choose "import as new track" and tick the mono option. Or record arm an empty solo track, check the input matrix, and do it that way.
Above the toolbar next to the info bar/window you'll see a smaller window with a # , tap on that to bring up the various snap-to options. Tap the transport control in the upper right corner to bring down the menu where you set your ruler format (time, bars:beats and so on).
Auria have a good forum where you can ask specific questions. I think you're experiencing early teething troubles though, because the snap options are there and I'm pretty sure that if you paste your audio into a mono track it will come in as mono - set this option when you create new tracks in Auria.
Obviously a desktop DAW is going to be more fully-featured than Auria, but it's still a beast on iOS.
Best on ios? Mmm prefer to work with Cubasis but that is just myself and others. Lol. Not to mention all of those IAP's! It is definately better than tabletop at least. Did the new update for Auria ever get midi abailability?
@Tritonman2 I think you're in the wrong thread?
Beast, not best. Lol. Clean your glasses...
Beast it was but also the best IMO. I own Cubasis, and I use it for MIDI, but I always do final mixes in Auria because the quality of the sounds is in a different league, and it has automation. It will interesting to see how the MIDI implementation stacks up when it finally arrives.
Thanks for the tips, guys. After finding my reading glasses I was able to see what I was missing.
As rule I move files into AudioShare first, there you can use the tools to convert a file from stereo to mono. Then use "open in" to Auria.
I don't really make music in my Mac any more but I have been recording to it via logic.

Isn't that making music on the Mac though?
I love my iPad 4 and Air but they don't come near to the workflow I achieve on the Mac. Maybe an apples and oranges thing.
Obviously midi and a couple of other features aside, I feel Auria is getting very close to the desktop experience. With the pace of hardware and software improvements on the ipad side, I feel a year from now it will be comparable to desktop DAWs and 2 years from now, a tablet based DAW will become the platform used by some top producers.
..just look at how much has changed in the last 2 years

I guess I mean to say I don't create music with my laptop, I capture it. Sometimes edit it. I wouldn't say I 'make' music with my ADAT.
