Digitakt or Polyend Tracker ?

Let's discuss.. after i purchased Digitone, i definitely decided to buy some samoler to team it with digitone - mostly for drums/percussions, aproeggios, noises, vocal fx stuff ...

Now i have gigantic dilemma :-) Digitone or Polyend Tracker ? I'm totally familiar with tracker workflow (made a lot music with modedit, screamtracker, fasttracker, impulsetracker, modplug, buzz in '90s), but i also love digitone sequencer and digitone looks sool sexy together with digitakt on desk .. But also Polyend looks sexy :-))))

it's really hard to decide

i'm curious for any arguments, subjective and objective, any ideas, any experiences, anything.. can't afford both, so i need to choose one..

(my goal is to have complete solution for iPad-less jaming / composing and both combinations - digitone+digitakt or digitone+polyend are perfectly covering everything i need)

which one you would choose ?

  • The answer is Yes :)

Just kidding. This is a tough one for sure. I'd probably go for the Polyend Tracker since it's cheaper and would inspire you in different ways that the Digitakt would. Either instrument would be awesome paired with the Digitone, so you won't be missing anything if you choose one over the other.

Now, the GAS will be big either way...but the Polyend Tracker is the newest kid on the block...so go for that one :)

  • I had a play with the MPC One in person at the local store when I got my NTS-1. I should NOT have done that!

But knowing myself the GAS will pass...
...but If I was just starting out and didn't have anything else the MPC One would definitely be my primary pick for now.

For me personally trackers need a proper keyboard to 'get up to speed' with editing.

I find the BlackBox more tempting that the PolyEnd Tracker when it comes to stand-alone units.

@Samu Just gonna leave this photo right here 😬

  • Looks like the M8 is capable of more but I prefer the size/layout on the poly.

just wanted to say that after few more jams with Digitone i'm starting to gravitate to Digitakt from single simple reason - FN+Yes / FN+No key combination :-)

(for ppl who don't have Digi's - it basically saves current pattern to temporary memory , then you can do tons of tweaks, totally destroy your pattern or transform it to something else, and then just by FN+No you revert all changes and jump back
to saved state.. dam this one is AMAZING for jamming / experimenting ... its really huge thing...)

  • I have both digitakt and digitone. It helps that both have the same elektron workflow. So my vote would be digitakt. Get your tracker kicks with Renoise

  • @echoopera how are you getting on with the MPC? I want one, badly and am looking to get one for myself by xmas.

everybody needs at least one elektron machine :-))

Really, best thing i ever purchased. I had to sell blofeld, neutron and SE-02 to afford it, no regret.

I owned a LOT of gear including various grooveboxes in last 25 years but digitone is over all scales .. instant inspiration - that sequencer and interface is phenomenal.

    Truth!
    I’ve got an Octatrack and a Model:Samples.
The Digitakt seems nestled right in the I-want-it middle too.
    (And a Digitone, Model:Cycles....)

    It never ends. Thank god.

  • It never ends.

    truth.

  • im having amazing experience with digitone, digitakt and octatrack mk2.
    setup:
    all synced with program change
Digitone and Digitakt to octatrack inputs monitored.
    octatrack main to aum
octatrack cue to aum as send effect ( blackhole)

octa and Digitakt can sample anything from aum through bus sends, also guitar and mic.

    heaven

yeah this is another good reason for me to choose digitakt instead of polyend - ability to sample from ipad via usb

  • hm.. damn.. i'm at the beginning again.. just realised that you have multiple LFOs / Envelopes per instrument in PolyEnd tracker (eg. independent LFO for filter, amp, sample start, panning, independent Env per same stuff), where Digitakt has just one LFO per instrument and one Amp and one Filter Env ..

  • @dendy you can easily add more LFOs to Digitak from iPad apps, or midi loopback trick. I use midi mod https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/midi-mod/id1465677026

Are you sure you need more to write good music?

I'm on the hunt for HW only jam/production rig :-) Which means also iPad out of equation (or just as stereo mix recorder) :-)

Nope, but it's nice option for more complex sound design :)

Anyway not showstopper, on other side limitations are inspiring, and still Digitakt has basically unlimited
number of sound parameter locks per trig vs. 2 FX columns on Polyend - which is huge plus for Digi :-)

Sorry for bothering here with this my thoughts, but it helps mi to sort stuff in my head, i'm closer and closer to hitting buy button on Digitakt :)))
