I like this one even better. How is he making those long ambient tails on the piano?
Ask @Daveypoo. He’s the EP Grand Master.
@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr The first track is a Wurlitzer EP, likely a 200A by the tone. You can find one in Neo-Soul Keys Studio & Neo-Soul Keys Studio 2. These Wurly models are very good, and while they don't sound EXACTLY like that track, it'll get your close and you can tweak from there.
The second track is likely a Rhodes EP, and it sounds like they are using some sort of a sustainer to get the tail. For a Rhodes you can use either NSK or Electric Vintage from apeSoft. They sound different from each other and again, not EXACTLY like the track but close enough to get you in the park.
Remember - because EPs are mechanical devices, they have a sonic personality much like a guitar in that the same year, make and model may sound wildly different from each other. Keep that in mind as you peruse the current EP apps.
Hope that helps!
@LinearLineman 😉
@Daveypoo Good answer that....
Many thanks, my distinguished colleague. In the second one, if you ff to 24:20 you can hear the piano isolated. What is a sustainer effect on ios that would do that? This was made in the late 90s I think, FWIW.
Starting around 35:00 or so the tail sounds a little modulated. But just a tad.
EOS 2 Algorhythmic Reverb can do that.
For longer than Super Hall there's an "Infinite" parameter with a button in the app and an AUv3 Paramter you can assign to a CC to toggle it off. Anything you feed it rings until you turn it off.
ValhallaDSP reverbs are legendary and we have this one on IOS. I was talked into buying one on may Laptop and it's truly stunning and there are multiple flavors or reverb. All impressive. Nothing on IOS touches them but that's generally true of most desktop plug-ins. They just have access to more resources and can justify a year or two to perfect one since they can sell for $100+ if they are really good.
Ah thanks, I have Eos and use it all the time but never really messed with the infinity thing because it always turns to mud right away for me. You think he's just pressing a pedal to get infinite reverb and then releasing it occasionally? What do you think is modulating the tail?
Not surprisingly, McD, a search of my iPad revealed I already owned EOS 2. 🙄
So, what are the names of the presets that are Valhalla-influenced??? And how do you alter the presets?
If you haven’t already guessed, this is yet another app I purchased on sale and never opened....
The Four DSP Algorhytms are enabled via buttons and the 5th is Infinite.
And the Infinite button/parameters which can be tied to a pedal or any CC generating device
will just hold the reverb in a steady state condition.
When you release Infinite you'll still get the tail of one of the 4 algorithms that is currently active.
Each alg. has all the usual options Size, Decay, Predelay, etc, and Mix (which has a Lock button option too).
For ambient purposes it's the holy shit.
Wow, McD, and here all this time I’d been settling with Zero reverb! 🤫
But seriously, that’s great information to know. As always, thank you for your incredible wisdom and insight...
I'm regurgitating wisdom that was shared with me... with enough patience I could give credit.
I didn't realize EOS 2 was so great until after I praised AltiVerb (which is IAA only and it's
Taj Mahal IR preset). Then I was sold on Valhallah and someone slipped me the essential clue I need all along for ambient like Eno productions right from my little iPad.
Oh yeah, I’m a big fan of Ativerb as well!
Guessing I’m set for a full weekend of echo-sploration with Eos!
Thanks!
In addition to using a reverb plugin with long tails, you'll also need to add a low pass filter after the reverb. In AUM, you'd have two separate audio paths after your EP of choice, one for the direct signal and one for the low-pass filtered reverb effect only, finally mixed together.
AUM has the LPF and routing on board.
Muchas gracias, amigos. Could Envolver control the infinity button on Eos? Such that when the input to Envolver is high, the button is off; when input is low, button goes on and creates the tail.
^^^I got this working. I don't fully understand Envolver, but a little wiggling and it came together.
